Careers Employment Questions and Answers

Overtime cross-question?

Question:
A former employer would not give us overtime. We be paid every two weeks. Week one our repay would be 45 hours and the next week we would acquire a day sour because we would have worked over 80 hours surrounded by 2 weeks. I thought overtime was calculated weekly - I would love to enjoy them audited - she ripped alot of people stale if this true.

Answers:
Anything over 40 HOURS is considered overtime. It is not calculated by number of days in a week you work . With that human being said, if your work day is 8 hours, next your boss gave you an extramural 3 hours off in need pay -- because you didn't work 8 hours the hours of daylight you were given stale. I would contact the Labor Board to ask them about this.
If you want to report the employer, profile a complaint with your state's labor dept.
An employer can grant time off, but it must be inside the same week.
Federal overtime regulation states that time over 40 hours must be paid at the rate of 1.5 times your hourly rate. If you are gross, there are different rules for different undertaking titles.
Check dol.gov if you want more information.
overtime isn't guaranteed with any available job. read your department's policy manual. if you discover that you are correct contained by stating that you are owed overtime pay, submit copies of your paystubs and proof of hours worked to the soul responsible for your paycheck. if you find that there is no policy for overtime, consider it a lesson bookish.
Unless it's a union living and you are under a collective bargain agreement that defines that work rota, then this seem to be a violation of the federal overtime regulations. Yes, overtime is calculated weekly contained by most states, but there are a few exceptions. Your employer is required to post the Federal Wage Order that applies to your company - that will detail the overtime requirements for your profession. If they are not complying with the wage demand, you should contact your state's labor board.
It should be calculated weekly, but if you are an exempt (as defined by your state) or salaried employee, it may be without fault legal to do so. Check your state information to be sure.
OT is salaried per week..OVER 40 hours PER WEEK is OT - you should totally reported!
yes, that is something that a employer cannot correction without your consent. That is why they hold you check your pay stubs when you carry them. You are able to call for a number to report this. I would, you may get fund pay if you hold proof of the hours that you worked and the money she ripped you off for.

Format for reference??

Question:
I know I have to put my reference on a separate page from my resume, but how should I set it out and what information should be included? What if one of your references no longer work at equal place as you worked together, how do you set that out?

Answers:
For references, there's a few esteemed issues that the potential employer wants to know:

1) Who is it?
2) Where do they work very soon and what is their position/job?
3) How do I get contained by touch with them? Phone is preferrred.
4) How do you know them? (Manager at xxx Inc.)
5) How long own you known them?

If you've get all of that information, you're probably in place to go.

Two tips:
When possible, your reference should include "professional" references. People who you enjoy worked for or with within a business/work setting.

Make sure you ask your references ahead of time if you can use them as a quotation. That's a pretty good etiquette tip for any mention.

Good luck!

My reference sheet, have my name and phone number at the top, name of people, how I know them (former co-worker etc) and their phone number.

First Job Ever! What's needed within my resume and what question will they be asking contained by the work interview?

Question:
I want to apply for a job to a cute shop which sell gorgeous childrens clothes. I want to get some perception on what is needed in my resume and if they phone call me in for a undertaking interview what questions do they ask?

I know I havnt even applied all the same but whats needed in a resume?

Im with the sole purpose 15 and I need relieve :) thanks!

Answers:
While you may not have need of a resume, it may show to the owner that you have initiative and for a moment bit of good gumption.

You'll probably own to fill out some sort of central application that will include a lot of this same information, but you can procure a jump on it beside something *extra*.

First off, one of your best resources is your institution computer teacher or business mentor (if there are any still around, oodles high school don't have business classes any more). If you don't enjoy a computer teacher at your conservatory, ask your English teacher for some concept. She or he will probably have a undamaged lesson, but there may be a breakneck handout that she has (or the Sophomore or Junior English instructor has) that will be helpful. Of course, since it's summer, you may not hold this option, but if she's get a Web page, she may check email over the summer.

Start with institution.
List your grades if you're an A or B student. If you've been on honor role, enumerate that. If you're in a unique magnet program (band, science, art, etc.) list that.

Next, enumerate your organizations.
List your activities- do you do sports, church management, cheer, yearbook, student council, band? Are you, within any way, a commandant in any of these organization? (It doesn't have to be "official"- you don't hold to be the captain to say aloud that you teach the younger/newer students how to do what they have need of to.

Finally, list reference.
Since you probably can't get this from your teacher right now, account teachers who would make available you a glowing recommendation- what classes do you do in good health in? Name those teacher. A general rule of thumb is to ask anyone contained by advance earlier you use their name, but if you're a moral apple in their class, they won't mind (I qualified freshman English, I would have merrily done it). Give the school's phone number- but note that they are on summer leave and may be hard to conquer.

If you have a pastor who you can register as a recommendation, or who would be prepared to write a paragraph about what a honest person you are, try to take that. Another tip: you might tell them that you want a referral to explain exactly what you want to give emphasis to. In this case, it's your work ethic and your exemplary traits.

When you go, DRESS NICE. No cutoffs, no flip flops, no strappy tops. This is IMPORTANT. You want to be taken moderately seriously by the owner/manager, so dress seriously. Even to drop off the resume or ask for an application, you should be dressed resembling it's an important daytime at school or church.

And next, finally, don't be too hurt if you don't get a ring up back. Many shops and stores enjoy more applications than they have any conception what to do with. Take your topical resume and recommendations to the subsequent place.

Good luck!

You dont need a resume, amble in and teem out an application. Since this is your first job, what could you possibly put contained by a resume.
Alot of times, they'll ask you what you know about the company you want to work for or why you want to work within.

Good luck
Tough question you should be prepared to answer at interviews:

"So, transmit me why you want to work at Dollar Express(example)"

"So what are your best qualities?"

"What would you enunciate are 2 qualities you inevitability to work on?"

These can be real stumpers- practice so your answer doesn't furnish off any doomed to failure vibes:)

Don't listen to that other guy- if you wanted to sort a resume- yes, it might be shy on the previous employment section, but you would record references, skills you enjoy, classes you've taken in arts school, clubs, hobbies.

You could list previous employment if you've ever babysat, help with a rummage mart, bake public sale or church festival etc. Even if you consent to your neighbors dog out while she was on break, it shows reliability (and creativity).
Resumes are summaries of your work history, education, and skills. Since you are infantile you probably dont have much to write, but put down your schooling, any rewarded or volunteer work you have done, put your grades down if they are suitable grades.
Give them a list of reference, names and phone numbers who can vouch that you a polite person. Check microsoft.com, template, for samples of resumes.

Questions they will ask - I am guessing, but can you breed (money) change if critical, can you sell? What hours can you work? How will you concord with an angry customer?
if you are applying for a retail chore you don't need a resume and since this is your first brief i would need some accurate references. For example a trainer or a coach or a good familial friend.

When you get call in for an interview, they will ask you what you would do contained by miscellaneaous situations and how you would sell to respectively client that comes through the door.

If you really do want to hand them a resume since you don't enjoy any work experience I would say newly write down the extra curricular activites that you are involved in. Any volunteer work, and since you want to work beside childrens apparel, try to include in the detail of activities something that have to do with children and your love for mode.

If you need anymore give support to let me know, my friends telephone call me the resume guru! lol.

Wish you the best and at the interview just relax and be yourself!
If this is your first opening, you wouldn't need a resume. A resume is a representation of your previous work experience.

To apply for a profession, simply ask for a job application. You may also want to ask if here is an age limitation (you may own to be 16, 18, etc.) If they call you for an interview, they may ask question such as: "What would you do if a fellow employee found a generous amount of money on the floor," "Are you a leader or a follower," etc. The question are nothing to stress out something like, as they are generally adjectives sense. Remember to smile, be polite and to ask the interviewer questions if you own any. Good luck.

Enthusiasm is a good point. Doesnt mean they will hire you because of your enthusiasm, but near so much negativity in the world today, enthusiasm is generosity.
Don't send an e-mail. Make a phone phone and keep it short.
I would opt for a phone give the name over email...
Much more personal!

You might consider not solitary tailoring the cover letter to respectively employer, but making changes to the resume itself to tailor it to the employer, especially by business type. No , if he is available for an interview that would be good but they are rather busy folks. Just turn it in at the customer service counter...
I'm a retail superintendent and here's how you would get an interview next to me: When turning in your application, be sure you're prepared for an interview. Make sure you are dressed appropriately - no revealing, tight shirts or short shorts and please no flip-flops. If the place of employment is busy, come pay for when they are not so busy. Ask if the manager is busy. When you speak to the administrator, tell them who you are contained by less than 30 second and make sure you put in the picture them why you would be an asset to their store. Selling skills and customer service is number one. Enjoying a challenge and achieve goals is number two. Working all right within a squad is number three. If the manager doesn't dispense you an on the spot interview, tell them you appreciate their time and ask when you can give the name them to schedule one. You label your own destiny happen. Don't hang around for someone to do it for you.
Le Bigmac is right !
Always ask to speak to a manager, you can ask some question to see if you will like the position.

How rock-hard is it to procure a Marketing Job?

Question:
I have be working in the NHS as PA for a Head of Department, I couldn't help yourself to other jobs within the past due to personal reason. I would like to attain into the private industry, specially in Marketing, but enjoy no work experience in that. The singular Marketing knowledge I own is my BA in Marketing...

Answers:
It's a tough one, even near the degree. Marketing is still a popular choice and, what's more, beside both sexes (yes, there ARE still plenty of disciplines that are dominated by one sexual category or another!), thus the total number of potential competitors is high. I don't know what stipend you're on at the moment but you might need to look at taking a mid-range opportunity to get a foothold. In the industry, your track transcript is key, so the sector you've played in successful campaign, events, sales support, research etc is key. That's how people progress, no-one go in at the top!

Professional testimonial help (CIM or IDM) but these also just go so far, they would probably appear as a 'desirable' a bit than an 'essential' in a character spec. Also consider the area of marketing you want to seize into or specialise in. It's not adjectives about poster campaigns or producing pretty flyers; there's also research, planning and analysis as merely a few examples of other areas. There's plenty to choose from.

And lastly, talk to agencies. Michael Page are merely one of many who specialise (although not exclusively) contained by marketing roles.

Good luck!
The BA will help - however experience is switch.

Marketing is a bit of a large animal so I would start by finding your niche - what type of marketing is that you feel you could specialise contained by - DM, eMarketing, Product/Brand Management, Digital, Agency/Customer side, SEO/PPC.

Once you have this afterwards you should study other companies who use that medium and win a grip of common marketing technique that are currently being used. You can next use this knowledge at the interview stage.

However, you necessitate to be aware that you will probably need to start as Marketing Assistant height and then work upwards.

Hope this help.
How hard, amazingly hard. You've get a degree though so you should be creative and see what comes up.
