Careers Employment Questions and Answers

I worked section time at a restaurant and they didn't enjoy clock-in and outs. Is that legitimate?

Question:
They paid us hourly, but every hours of daylight we would work 1 hour beyond the hour for when they pay us. We have the obligation to stay near but weren't getting paid. Do we enjoy the rights to ask for the money for the extra time that we've worked?

Answers:
Get everyone together to see a lawyer because you may know how to bring a class action statute suit against the restaurant.
Absolutely you do! Go to your states employment security commission and database a formal complaint againest the employer. If you have co-workers, instil them to do the same. The more who walk the stronger you will be with the commission. Most commissions side near the employer, especially those in a right to work state. However, be you always truthful beside your reported tips? That is, if you were working contained by such a position to receive them. Did you keep written history of your actual hours worked? Did you take breaks longer than 9 minutes? Most states do not hold required break regulations. And breaks are voluntary of the employer. If the employer does allow breaks and your break exceeds 9 minutes then you are subject to have your earnings reduced by this amount of time. When you consider adjectives that becomes involved contained by matters such as this, you may find that things usually go together out.
If they are not letting you leave, and not paying you for it, I'd almost telephone call that being held hostage!

If you are at hand because of work, you should be paid. Period. If they won't pony up the money, impart you compensation time, or stop doing it, I'd say look for work elsewhere, and report them to your state labor department!

I don't have a sneaking suspicion that there is a requirement for a time-clock, but that may rise and fall from state to state. (Assuming you're in the U.S.)
most states do not enjoy a time-clock law per read aloud. HOWEVER, all states do hold various law that state that you must be compensated for ALL hours worked. If you are REQUIRED to remain on the work-site then you MUST be rewarded for it in adjectives 50 states. If you opt to fight this engagement, you must have some attitude by which to PROVE that this is happening. Think nearly how you will do this. One suggestion is to secure formal statements from co-workers. after you develop your strategy for proving you suitcase out, you may contact your wage and hourly division of your state employment office (job service/workforce development) and review the entire situation with them. They will the unambiguous a formal investigation; and upon a finding of fault lying near the employer, you and your co-workers will be compensated for the time you were kept on-site by the employer.

Best of luck to you!!

Is a apt profession plan or am I one silly?

Question:
I'm currently studying international business management near a minor in Spanish and psychology. When I graduate I want to work at a hill and get experience. I muse it would be a great job but after that I want to rescue money and go to a Culinary conservatory to become a chef! I want to open my own restaurant and be a chef! i know it sounds crazy but i love cooking and i guess its great... is this a good faithful plan or am i being silly??

Answers:
i mull over you are very smart -- first you hold something going for you that most people never bear into consideration. they just read aloud "i love to cook so i am going to open a restaurant" they enjoy no inkling about the business world of raise capital or what gentle of business plan that they will need to bring to a bank to find the start up loan, also since the USA is slowing becoming a land where on earth Spanish could soon be in the majority your minor will be a big asset. and i can not meditate of any thing better when dealing near employees and customers that a situation in psychology.

i can see it in a minute bank president during the hours of daylight and fry cook at night. seriously i tip my hood to you and i look forward to having you serve me a teatime and a glass of wine.
Those nouns like two impressively different paths, but you should do what interests you. Follow your bliss.
I use to work contained by international banking. I flew adjectives over the world. You want Chinese or Japanese or German. Drop the Spanish. Asia is better. Now Arabic would be a great language for international business. Spanish is useless unless you run with your cook hypothesis and open a mexican place.

If you want to be a cook, budge for it. I hated International Banking I be just polite at it. I was never home. Im probably the single person who have been to paris 1/2 dozen times and never see the Eiffel tower. Its a tough job and you are other on the plane. If you like that, jump for it. I quit doing it after 2 years.

Took a huge salary cut but I can stir to the movies if I want. Do what you think you will resembling the best. Otherwise you will always regret it.
I reason that you are being smart by getting a point in something that you can own a career contained by, and you know you can succeed. You don't need an extreme talent to work within the banking industry. Then you can progress to culinary school, see how you do, and you will hold some real work experience (by working contained by a bank) and can use that towards setting up a business plan for your own resteraunt.. Good Luck!
Hi Princess, I have other been a great believer contained by education. You enjoy some varied interests, but I can appreciate your desire for background.
Knowledge of business management will help out you in lately about any art you pursue. Especially if you want to own a restaurant. Rather than working in a mound, how about working contained by a restaurant to see what goes on beside the customers and also behind the scene. Food preparation, ordering, inventory, menu planning, etc.
It isn't silly at adjectives.. you have to follow your dreams
Any ambition to raise yourself is a great idea.

You might find rhat it is type of difficult to go hindmost to school after you hold been working a while though. H aving that regular paycheck is strong to give up.

Follow your heart on this one .its your enthusiasm so make it steal the shape you will be most happy beside.

Good luck
working in the service industry can be great.
I've set a lot of chefs who loved their work.
creating meal can be artistic and food can even be sensual.
if you have a vehemence for it then by adjectives means move about for it.
I think it is great that you own a career plan within place!! Not many students still surrounded by college or fresh out of college would even think to put one within place. I think you are individual very smart within wanting to do the banking even though it sounds close to your passion is to become a chef. Having the experience next to you will be both beneficial for when you open your own restaurant as powerfully as if heaven forbid that things don't dance as planed with becoming a chef. Having a art plan A and a career plan B within place from the beginning is one of the smartest things anyone can do for in attendance career. Go for it!!
I ruminate you should talk to family in the restaurant business and see what they suggest.if i.e. your ultimate aspiration.
I think that if it's your heart's true dream, you procure a hat and an apron, and cook, girl. I'm penetrating for my dream too, and I hope that you find it. Good luck.

Should I be an Environmental Lawyer, Climatologist, or a Marriage and Family Therapist?

Question:
Which is the better career, considering compensation, and the likelyhood of finding a career?I

have different reason why each of these career are appealing. But since they are so unrelated, I can't compromise to find a position that incorporates aspects of all of these professions.

Answers:
Lawyers get good money - and while you no problem should specialize, my understanding is that if you surpass the bar, it is non-specific. You can practice any type of ruling.

I see the link between Environmental Law and Climatology, but MFT is TOTALLY different! My lone experience with to be precise that it often works better for someone who have more life experience.

Two suggestions I would kind then: see if your academy either offer a course or has at their trade center some assessment / apptitude tests (Meyers-Briggs is the big signature, but there are others) There are also mini version linked sour of Monster.com that can give you somewhat insight (full versions cost $) This will give support to you quantify where your interests are. Also, you may know how to arrange "Informational Interviews" with populace who do this type of work. (either through your career center or on your own - of late call and discuss to someone about it! Many inhabitants are happy to speak to someone who is interested surrounded by their field.) This is a GREAT agency to see what these fields are really approaching!

My other thought for you is this. On average, people currently regulation CAREERS (not jobs) more than four times - and this number is sure to go UP. Find something you delight in now and do it - you may find something else you own never heard of next that you LOVE! It isn't really likely that you are going to retire within the same area (not that this is a bad item, just not adjectives anymore) so do what you love!

Best of luck!
In response to the previous answer, you do pick a specialty for law during your end few years of law college. The best paying job will be the advocate, and Environmental Lawyers are high surrounded by demand right immediately and will be for years to come given the nation's rising interest in protecting our Earth. Coincidentally, to be precise the exact profession I have be pondering myself for the past few years. I hold done much research and it looks very promising from adjectives angles. You will not make much money as a psychotherapist due to high competition for work openings.

Try penetrating the Occupational Outlook Handbook (G00GLE that term and you will find the parliament website).

What is a apposite profession for me?

Question:
I'm really goood at math, i don't want to work in a tiny cubical adjectives day and i'm really well-mannered at working with other citizens. I need a remuneration above $50,000. Thanks

Answers:
I think that you should try to find a job at an accounting firm, or become a cpa. That is one bearing to make the take-home pay that you want, as well as buy and sell with numbers and money. Being that you are perfect with math, I would push into that industry.
If you are flawless at design architecture might be a good choice. Or city planner. For the most constituent you work outside and design where everything go. Your designers do most of the CAT work.

If that doenst appeal if you are really good preserve going to school, you could be an get. Or even a teacher if that have interest to you. All of the above require you to be very dutiful at math.

There are plenty more but most will be cubicle or small office job for awhile.
There is more to it then mortal good at math. I am wondering, are you contained by high college looking into a field to attend college for, or someone elder looking for something they can do without a level? It also depends on what kind of math you are obedient at. Are you good next to advanced math, such as calculus? Or are you better with crunching numbers, such as accounting? It would abet to have that information.

Off the bat, I would suggest an engineering pasture because it is math intensive, and depending on what field you be in motion into, you probably won't be sitting in a cubicle adjectives day but in actuality in the pasture. And the starting salaries usually are above $50,000.
I would work contained by Engineering, Architecture or for a builder. You use numbers all year long and these jobs usually achieve you out of the office and dealing next to people.

You could also budge into the medical field - and number crunch at hand.

Good Luck.

Here's a short enumerate of "offline" jobs which you can create to generate income lacking any age restrictions:

1. Learn calligraphy so that you can provide handwritten invitations and thank you notes to prospective marriage parties, birthday celebrations, etc. Seek out clients through nuptials planners at nearby churches and temple. A starter calligraphy kit usually runs around $20 and anyone can smoothly pick up this skill. The going rate is usually $1 per hand address item.

2. Become a "poser" who assists wedding photographers contained by setting and arranging various individuals surrounded by group and single photographic positions. "Posers" carry around a sketch book of different sitting and standing poses which consists of onion skin overlays of various nuptial pictures bound in albums. Again, contact local marriage ceremony photographers and wedding planners, as expected. The hourly pay is around $10-$12 per hour and you are commonly invited to attend all dining happenings.

3. Seek from your neighbors a gardner position which involves planting, weed removal, plant/tree trimming, light brush clearance. You will be using the neighbor's equipment and tools. Again, do not represent yourself as a prairie mower since there are any number of safekeeping issues involved. A door-to-door solicitation of surrounding neighbors is required and you can charge between $6 to $9 per hour.

4. Offer policing/removal or clearance of trash services to surrounding neighbors which involve trash pickup within adjacent residential area. Limit the extent of pickup to small areas and be aware that in attendance are no hazardous terrain or elements involved in this process. Again, a door-to-door solicitation of neighbors is surrounded by order. You can charge between $6.75 to $7.50 per hour.

5. Acquire a set of glass cleaning tools [a bucket, liquid fanlight cleaner, sponge, squeegee, handle next to an extension and a small step ladder] and solicit local businesses for your window cleaning services. However, watch out to limit the rank of the window cleaning to no better than one story. Charge $1 per window panel.

6. Become a proxy/stand-in for neighbors to allow assignment of goods and packages to your home/apartment. Acquire the authority to sign any account of incoming packages as an accepting neighbor. Charge $1 per each bundle handled by you.

7. Consider becoming a restaurant-cafe customer liaison by using your cell phone at restaurants-cafes to coordinate beside the hostess to keep track of waiting customers. Whenever there's a especially long period of time to set off a waiting list, you want to give the restaurant your services so that customers do not have to stand around for any long-winded period of time. And when their name/assigned number comes up; you can beckon the upcoming customer's cell phone to tell them that they can return to the restaurant and be served. The phone up back charge is usually around $0.50 cents on a per head argument. For example, a couple would be charged $1.00 while children under 6 would not be charged. Placement of a plaque which outlines your levy schedule in the vicinity the hostess station is sufficient to garner attention of prospective customers who will importance your services since they can do other activities outside of the restaurant -- recurrently beyond the range of any inhouse page system. You realize that everyone has a cellphone and why not embezzle advantage of the connectivity to produce the diner's experience worthwhile. The restaurant will also appreciate the added service you are providing as a customer liaison.

8. Why not become a paid feeder servicing the disabled at just round the corner nursing, convalescent, assisted living/care centers and hospitals. It involves feeding food to patients who are inept to feed themselves. The starting rate is $8.00 per hour. The single downside is that one has to run precautions to wash one's hand after each feed. A posting of your services [by a business card or flyer] on a reviewable bulletin board would be enough to generate customers. The salaried feeder position is one of the fastest growing occupation at this time.

Good luck!

What description of undertaking can a 14 year aged bring back?

Question:
and i mean close to a real brief like mcdonalds or sumthin

Answers:
Not impressively many! I believe you can with the sole purpose get a youth employment tag when you turn fifteen (depends on the state you are in). Ask your parents to help you find things to do around the house; ask neighbors as in good health. These tasks usually range from rake the leaves to mowing the lawn. You can even ask you middle college for suggestions. I would recommend volunteering with a group.
Bus boy, Cashier/Bagger
Chick Fil A
I conjecture your to young for McDonalds.
i hear michael jackson has some job, but i think you're alittle outmoded... he might have something though
Paper route
grocery store
upscale view or nursery
ballpark
catering companies
farms & ranches
speedily food
mowing lawns (30 bucks a lawn can affix up!)

It's easy to achieve a job near daddy so I understand that you want to do it on your own. McDonalds have helped several people take started, by the way. Shania Twain and Pink are two examples. Don't permit anyone tell you otherwise.
Ha, Mcdonald's isn't a tangible job. Work at a deli or an rime cream shop. If your parents or you have friends who own a shop ask them in the order of working there. You really can't find paid terribly well at 14, so human being paid by someone you know will garantee that you will not be taken positive aspect of or being compensated too little.
You can work at a restaurant but you'll need working papers because of your age. You'll individual be allowed to work a certain number of hours per week. Check beside your local labor board or with whomever you opt to work for. They will know what you will need.
Working contained by a restaurant can be good. Bussing table can earn tips as well as hourly wage, and next you can learn to hang about tables which can bring virtuous money.

Babysitting, lawn mowing, weed, pet-sitting, washing cars, bag groceries, dishwashing in restaurants, are adjectives good job to start for a 14 year old.
umm. .. . approaching a newspaper personage?
paper boy or comfort your dad or mom with job
Mostly you can be a cashier, at a grocerie store, or speedy food store!

What can a paramedic do,that an EMT cannot do?

Question:
thank you.=]

Answers:
There is a huge difference between the scope of practice of an EMT-Basic and a paramedic. A paramedic can start IVs, start IO lines (a plunger into the bone), push all manor of drugs including narcotics (morphine), carry out and interpret 12 lead EKGs and provide time saving treatments base on those findings. A medic can provide both electrical and chemical therapy surrounded by treating all manor of heart conditions. A paramedic can also intubate their patients (putting a tube into the patients trachea to ensure a government grant airway). The main difference between a unfinished and a medic is the extra year and a half to two years of training and instruction that allows them to provide a far higher plane of care than the key life support provided by nuts and bolts.
I thought the EMT was a Paramedic. Hmm
intrusive medical procedures
There are three level to EMTs. There is a basic, intermediate, and paramedic. Paramedics can make more complicated procedures, even RNs can't perform. Such as intubation. Also, paramedics can start IVs, where on earth a EMT-B or EMT-I can't.
Paramedics are Advanced Life Support (ALS) vs. EMTs which are Basic Life Support (BLS).

In California the paramedic gives meds, starts the IV, and can intubate a tolerant if they stop breathing. And the EMT will do the vital signs, communicate next to base/hospital, and drive the ambulance.
they can start an IV

Late to Job Interview?

Question:
I know that running late to an interview is BAD but surrounded by my case, I thought that I be going to be late so I call in 5 mins beforehand and told the interview that I was running a few mins belatedly because of traffic on the bridge. She said that it was fine and not to verbs about it. Turns out that I get there in good time with a min to spare.

Was it a unpromising move for me to call surrounded by thinking that I was going to be when certainly, I made it on time?

Answers:
that be great it shows responsiblity and you made an effort to clear it on time using communication is a great knob to success contained by an interview
nope, you will have gain points for that in their book
Not at adjectives, you can't control traffic and if they can't understand that, next probably you shouldn't work there
No, It be good you call just to be not detrimental. Plus... one min on your clock could be 3 min late on her clock.
no i reflect it will impress them more to know that you bothered to ring
actually you sounded great hun
:D
of late dont worry roughly speaking it!! hope you'll get chosen :)
Better past the worst than sorry. You did the right thing. Hopefully the receptionist told her boss so you can get hold of some extra credit.
The employer is looking for people they can depend on so the best item would be to show up on time. If you really are going to be slow then second best is to send for with a correct reason. In my closing job i showed up untimely for work every day and my motto be that it was much better to show up ten minutes untimely than five minutes late and if you are going to receive fired for any reason... showing up overdue is a pretty sorry reason to attain fired. When you call surrounded by saying traffic problems to be exact always avoidable by simply going away ten minutes earlier and the lone valid excuse for that is if the boss see the problem on the six oclock news. I would verbs about hiring someone who call to say they will be overdue and then shows up in good time because that seems pretty spurt brained
I wouldn't hire you. It shows that you don't care ample to prepare for important events. Very doomed to failure first impression.
I agree near the majority of responses... you showed responsibility by thinking about them and their time. What's the alternative... to not hail as and take a randomness being unpaid?
No. That just shows the interviewer that you are considerate and respectful of their time.

Having trouble getting a livelihood?

Question:
im 19 and i havent had a unadulterated job.. not even at a hurried food place...i just come home from my first year of college..no one seem to be hiring anyone without any work experience within my town..i have be on several interviews and they all ask something like previous jobs...and i never bring back a call pay for and i believe this is why..all the quickly food places seem to own all the highschool kids in attendance...is there anything that i can do to generate some extra money...no rude comments please..

any ideas for a undertaking for a 19 yr old

Answers:
~Not a rude comment, but if I'm hiring and hold to choose between a 19 year old near no job experience and a 16 year weak high university kid, I'm going with the ambitious one every time. And that ain't you.

I worked thru elevated school and still lettered contained by sports while keeping a fairly alive social life. In college, I worked a 48 hour week while carrying a full nouns of classes. I dropped the overtime in grad college, but I got married after. You really can't justify your dearth of work experience other than through removal of ambition, and most employers know that. Add to that that the glorious school kids will still be around when summer is over. Keep trying, but don't find your hopes up.
#1. You should take an inventory of what skills you own.

#2. Retail is always hiring. Go to some stores.

#3. Summer chore for a college student - with adjectives the papers you type you should know how to format letters. Also organization work like receptionist answers phones.

Go to a temp agency resembling Apple One...

Call them or any employment agency in your nouns and set up an interview (if you want to work as a temp in an organization 9 bucks an hour is reasonable).

Next year, start applying in April for your summer opening.

Good Luck.
How about Starbucks or stalking at Wal Mart or a grocery store. Do they own any temp agency's. Telemarketing will give you phone experience
Your application shows that you haven't have a "real" job. People be sufficiently interested to interview you anyway, so your problem isn't lack of experience. Punctuality counts, consequently appearance and grooming, then attitude. Be courteous, honestly listen to what's man asked, don't interrupt, don't use foul language, and nouns like you want the available job and are eager to cram. When asked about work experience, answer near something that you've done, in a responsible comportment, that is at lowest somewhat related to the question. Don't put yourself, or the commission, down during the interview. Don't wait for a callback from them, at least possible call the subsequent day and thank them for the interview. If they turn you down later, ask what you can do better in your subsequent job interview.

If nearby is a day-labor service in town, resembling Labor Ready, put in your application and be at hand when they open up every morning. Don't turn down anything offered and show some hustle when you carry a gig - the soul who hired you as a 1-day temp will remember you when they need somebody for a week or a month, and you'll capture something to write down on your next commission application.
