As a advocate who represents employees I do what is commonly call transactional work. That means a minute with the client. I appear at hearing in administrative agencies similar to the EEOC, obtaining laying-off benefits, and before federal courts representing administration employees. Each daylight is different which is something that I enjoy.
Sometimes it is close to what you see on TV with adjectives the rushing around and going in front of strict courts, but most time it is not. As a lawyer you are on the livelihood 24/7. I work for lawyer and it is nothing similar to TV. There is so much paperwork and you spend most of your time doing it. Trials can be exiting, but not always. The hours you mentioned really depend on what type of attorney you want to be and what sort of practice you join. A smaller practice you might not hold to leave state, larger ones within is more travel, but the pay is much better. Collections is the easiest, corporate and defense are the hardest.
There are seriously of different types of lawyers, and some don't work as much overtime as others. Much of the time those that do work overtime choose to do it.

I am a trial advocate. Most days I go to hearing, take depositions (recorded interviews of folks surrounded by lawsuits), summarize them and then base on what information we got issue subpoenas for accounts to either verify a claim, investigate the extent of the injury or claim or look for impeachment information (that you are lying). Then that night, formerly the next year, you meet w/ your witnesses, tweak your satchel, make sure your witnesses in truth are going to be there, etc. and that go on till the verdict comes within. During that process, my clients and trials own me and I think they deserve no smaller amount of me. That having be said, there are closely of cost saving pressures on lawyer now that weren't at hand when I started practicing in 1987 and we tend to own to do more of our own clerical work (typing, etc.) and get smaller number staff and lower hourly rates to do it. Ironically when I first got out of imperative school and know nothing, I billed at $150/hour. Now, near 20 years practice, about 60 trials lower than my belt and a reputation for being all right respected and successful, I bill at $125/hour so you have to bill more time to give somebody a lift home less money. It is a great certification to enjoy if you want to work for large Fortune 500 companies, especially comapnies that are for the most part manufacturing contained by nature (i.e Boeing, GM, etc.)
I would imagein that what you're referring to is "Six Sigma Certification."
Six Sigma citations is a confirmation of an individual's capabilities next to respect to specific competencies. Just like any other standard certification, it does not indicate that an individual is able of unlimited process improvement, of late that s/he has completed the important requirements from the company granting the certification.
Six Sigma is a set of practices originally developed by Motorola to systematically develop processes by eliminating defect.[1] A defect is defined as nonconformity of a product or service to its specifications.
While the the whole story of the methodology were originally formulated by Bill Smith at Motorola within 1986[2], Six Sigma was heavily inspired by six preceding decades of level improvement methodologies such as Quality Control, TQM, and Zero Defects. Like its predecessors, Six Sigma asserts the following:
Continuous hard work to reduce changeability in process outputs is push button to business success
Manufacturing and business processes can be measured, analyzed, better and controlled
Succeeding at achieving sustained characteristic improvement requires commitment from the entire institution, particularly from top-level command
The term "Six Sigma" refers to the capability of highly competent processes to produce output within specification. In pernickety, processes that operate with six sigma competence produce at defect level below 3.4 defects per (one) million opportunity (DPMO)[3]. Six Sigma's implicit goal is to advance all processes to that rank of quality or better.
Six Sigma is a registered service blemish and trademark of Motorola, Inc.[4] Motorola has reported over US$17 billion surrounded by savings[5] from Six Sigma as of 2006.
In addition to Motorola, companies that also adopt Six Sigma methodologies early-on and continue to practice it today include Bank of America, Caterpillar, Honeywell International (previously agreed as Allied Signal), Raytheon, Merrill Lynch and General Electric (introduced by Jack Welch).
