A devout place to start for information would be the county or state department of Human Services, there is probably an Elderly Services division/department. They could probably report you how to get licensed to do this liberal of work. I'm sure there is like mad of red-tape to get through. Are any of you a CNA (Certified Nurses Assistant)? You may consider getting this certification, even except required for a license to do in-home care.
There are also lots agencies that hire people to clutch care of ancestors in their homes. You wouldn't be working for yourself but it would be dutiful experience and you could learn how the business works. (They tend to reimburse poorly, however)

I think you should look into why relations are concerned about your work history. Is this due to a denial of work history or do you have some blotches or problems on your resume? If you do, you will own to persuade folks that whatever ailed you since won't be an issue if they hire you. Ask going on for their apprentice training and how to get involved( by the path it doesn't cost you anything for the training).
