My father is acutally a retired policer officer and believe it or not, the rules are changing for what classifications you can hold in establish to become a police/patrol officer. Most states will require a 4-year college degree, but they will also consider any type of Military Police training that equals 4 years of on-the-job training as opposed to a point. There's also boot camp... But if you are going to college and if you are studying Criminology or Justice, this is the preferred scope of study as well as Anthropology and Health / Science (for lifeless case involvements). Your best bet is to certainly call the local department and they should own a designated person who can stroll you through the process.
