I inculcate accounting at a university, but the following is just IMHO. I believe that accounting is one of the best majors if your aim is to get a commission. A BS in nouns is a good nouns to accounting, but remember, accounting is the "language of business" and if you don't read accounting, you really won't be able to take in, really understand what's going on surrounded by the world of finance. Accounting is also a moral basis if you want to work contained by marketing, information systems, general control, anything really, even if you're interested in working for the management or for a nonprofit.
I do have 3 suggestions: (1) be sure the accounting program (preferable) and/or the business school/college of the college or university you move about to is accredited by AACSB --- simply the best schools are approved and this is where most companies dance to look for students. Some primarily liberal arts schools are attributed by a different organization -- better than nil, but not as good as AACSB -- check this out cooperatively. They must say ACCREDITED, not a MEMBER and not a CANDIDATE. (2) If you are interested contained by working in public accounting and becoming a CPA, you must, contained by most states, have earn 150 semester hours --- or 5 years of college rather than 4. The real issue beside Meijers is that it doesn't handle its competition okay. The stores are fine. They're well planned and executed, but the stiffness from the top down is palpable. Here in middle Michigan, Walmart is NOT seen as a better alternative to Meijers, but you wouldn't know it from shopping surrounded by a Meijers store.
Frankly, from a management perspective they come to nothing. They don't motivate their employees to own pride in their store. They don't do the community service that positions them as a philanthropic company (as opposing Home Depot and Lowes who do it EXTREMELY WELL).
Until the mood of the employees change, the community will continue seeing them as uneasy nellies who don't have control of their own enterprise.
