As far as still pissed about the Civil War, within is still alot of that Confederate pride thing going on. Yet if you be to ask any of these proud southerners about details of the Civil War (major battle, who won, who was the standard on each side) they couldn't relate you much.
A recruiter or interviewere that blatantly tells you that you are not southern satisfactory is doing something very unofficial, discriminatory and immoral. You probably wouldn't want to work for a company that allowed such nonsens to step on. Give it time and be patient. Try finding clubs or organization related to your profession and see if they can help you find work.
