If you are not dedicated about computing find a more stable work. I am in information technology presently and there are so several certifications that you could get and the open market is hard to capture into if you don't get your foot contained by the door through internships and other work experiences. Some companies want certifications, some want 10+ years experience, and some want advanced degrees. There are unbelievably few entry level job. It is tough. Layoffs are high contained by the technology world.

Personal experience. Still looking to break into IT Auditing but need certifications and experience. I own a Master's Degree that doesn't seem to denote squat. I work at a consulting company in MPLS, and if you can swot .NET or Java J2ee(not just java), you can take home upwards of 50/hr after 2-3 years of good experience(80+ after 5). the marketplace is never going to go away, but neither is healthcare.
I do database regulation and data entry, my post is pretty routine. Actually, my hours are 7-3:30, so if you don't mind getting up early it's so great to enjoy a long evening after work! There are tons of different kinds of computer job, obviously, resembling design(fun if you're an artistic type), IT, which is the technical stuff to fix everything, but if you want to lift a different path I wouldn't really suggest computers unless you're really interested because the '9-5' can bring back kinda boring :) Good luck!
