What is the chief motivation why a company would hire a lobbyist surrounded by Washington D.C?
And DOES IT MAKE SENSE FOR THE SAME COMPANY TO HIRE LOBBYIST AT THE STATE LEVEL? WHY?Answers: To push their interests.
A lobbyist tries to influence lawmakers to introduce and miss legislation that is favorable to the lobbyist's clients.
The legislation could be roughly almost anything. Often it's tax related, but it could be trade, environmental, affairs of state subsidies, regulatory, or just more or less anything else. TV station owners may want fewer regulations on their transmissions. Agricultural businesses may want subsidies for their growers. Electronics maker may want foreign trade laws that favor their industry.
If in attendance are state regulations that affect the company, then it would get sense for them to hire lobbyists at the state level, too. Sales of unsullied diesel cars are banned surrounded by some states, but diesel cars have gotten cleaner since exotic federal diesel fuel regulations (possibly driven by lobbyists in D.C.) go into effect last year. Car maker may want to hire lobbyists in the states that restriction new diesel sports car sales to try to take those laws changed so they can flog diesel cars in those states.
