What ethical obligations do you think Microsoft has to other software developers?
Answers: It would be nice if they exposed more of the Windows hooks for people to use in their applications.
The .NET framework is nice and is far better than using API calls but it would be nice to be able to program against the OS.
The argument that they are prop doesn't sit well with me. It is their refusal to allow programmers these types of calls that make what they do look suspicious. Letting me make direct calls to the email system to make for a smoother user exp doesn't seem to much to ask.
This is why in my opinion Microsoft should start calling Windows what it truly is. A program. Not an Operating system.
For a OS to be an OS all it needs to do is load the hardware to allow me access to use it. Everything else just enhances the user exp. Media player, email, browser , etc.
At installation every one of these user enhancements should be voluntary to install.
I don't buy a car and not get to pick the radio in it.. but in Windows you will get Media Player like it or not.
Now to be fair. Every other OS does that also.
If MS would take this tack and call it what it is, they would be exempt from many of the lawsuits that are brought against it.

In some states, the president may not also act as secretary of duplicate corporation.
The State fixes the total number of units one can Head which become a limit, no issue whether it is a non profit organisation or not. However it is wrong to discriminate between the different organisations by the Head.
