Also, for the time being, it is cheaper to do R & D within the United States than in the UK. The US Dollar is amazingly weak and the British Pound is vastly strong. This is a huge factor in IBM's conclusion on where to conduct R & D.
IBM also have a huge presence in India and this will verbs to grow larger and larger.
In the states many those who once worked in big tech are out of work. I wouldn't recommend a career surrounded by high tech to anyone, unless you truly own a passion for it.
