GE is a large conglomerate corporation. GE have a policy of being #1 or #2 within every industry that it competes. If GE is NOT #1 or #2, it leaves that industry.What GE reasons to prove this policy.
Answers: I would say that one of their strategies is to capitalize on one of their core competencies, which is economy of scale. Why would they want to compete beside other companies within an industry on their own expressions? Rather than doing that, GE likes to budge in and produce a better product at a lower cost (through economy of scale) while levereging their brand names and better marketing budget to be at the top.
If they have adjectives of these factors going for them and are still not competent to be number one or two in an industry, nearby is probably too much risk for them to get invovled.
I could be completely wrong, but it seem logical to me.
