What does it mean to work through a temp. agency? Pros and cons?
Answers: it means a company comes in and hires the temp agency to find workers for them to fill positions within their company. pros most are Monday-Friday work good pay and they always try to keep u working.cons would be not all of the jobs are temp to hire so they can call u on Monday send u to an assignment then u work a few days and call u right before Ur to go in and tell u they dont need u anymore.hence the name temp agency. I have worked for temp companies many years and have gotten great experiences from the various jobs i have worked through them.
cons: usually NO benefits such as health insurance, life insurance, etc. They can also can you at the end of your "term" w/o reasoning.
pros: you can work your butt off and get a full-time, PERMANENT job
I've done it.
very handy when I wasn't going to be living there permanently but needed to work for the remaining months.
company had a task that needed to be done, but no guarantee of permanent work, so it suited them just fine.
is easy way for a company to try out an unknown to the area worker, too.
The Pro is after you apply and take the tests at a Temp Agency you usually get a job right away and you have a gauranteed paycheck with all appropriate payroll taxes deducted.
The Con is you work at a company where everyone knows you are a 'temp' and most companies treat temps like red-headed step-children. They'll work you to death for the minimum salary that you are getting from the agency.
The Pro is, if you do a great job, the company may want to hire you directly from the temp agency and you will have a full-time job with benefits.
The Con is, if you don't like working at that company...and you don't accept their kind offer, the temp agency won't be able to easily place you in another company because you are now not 'marketable' to them. (They made a load of money with a hiring fee paid by the company to hire you.)
I could go on and on, but obviously, there are pros and cons.
The pros. You MAY get hired after 90 days.
The cons. Low pay, No job security, no commitment from the employer, no benefits, low pay, are you working tomorrow, low pay, are you working in the same place tomorrow, low pay, insecurity, instability, working with mostly dirt bags, did I mention low pay.
Invest your time in finding a real job. The temp stuff just gets in the way of gainful employment. If you have no alternatives at the moment, a bad job is better than none. But do not get locked into the routine of temp services.
