Answers: Radio Shack started as a place for hobbyists, ham radio, electronics, and eventually computers.
They moved their model to malls and more consumer goods, ie Cell Phones, TVs, BUT still cater (to some degree) to the home hobbyist. My assessment is that they are making money by the cell phone credits they get (remember they are national and market a LOT of phones), plus a few bucks on batteries, answering machines, etc.
I, close to your husband, dont like to shop near unless it is something I think that merely they will carry locally, resembling electronic components (resistors, boards, switches) because I think they are overpriced on everything else.
CompUSA go under because they merely couldnt compete with BestBuy. They have little to no technical support, a constrained inventory and very expensive locations, usually surrounded by strip malls. They just didnt construct any right moves in the end 10 years to keep them competitive, and neglected to spawn money in services close to the Geek Squad does.

Royal Mail, should it be Royal?
We have hade the extraordinary item not delivered,or gone astray, and enjoy never complained. Now Royal Mail have lost my artistic birth certificate, and payments to suppliers. My local Post Office advise me that if I pay lb4.60 for special transfer, I can be sure it will get nearby. Does this mean that the intention of a first class stamp really costs lb4.60? The problem seem to be at the top, and not with the postie. Our postman other used to get a Christmas box (lb5) because he/she clearly worked knotty. I am not surprised that they are demotivated, as strong leadership is missing.Answers: I lost considerable documents and got equal reply - Pay for special delivery. It loses the essential trust in the post system and looks similar to they are using back finishing marketing to increase revenues.
