Does the Navy guarantee jobs?

Answers: No, the Navy won't get you a job once you're discharged; that's your own responsibility. It sure as hell looks impressive to put down "Navy" or any other military on your resume though.
All branches of the military offers guaranteed job training in your selected career field. However, there are two catches to securing a guaranteed job training in your chosen career field.

1--You must secure a high ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test) score. Ask the Navy recruiter what the minimum ASVAB test score to get a guaranteed training in your career choice. In basic training, you'll be filling out a "dream" sheet of your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd job career choices; and the same form will ask for your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd permanent base assignment choices. I'm assuming your 1st permanent base choice is the closest base to your home residence, so you can come home regularly to visit your friends and family. If you come in with a guaranteed job (of your chosen career) from your recruiter, then you'll likely be getting your 1st job training career choice.

2--Most important; after you complete basic training, you'll be sent to a technical training base to receive formal training in your chosen career. This may be at the same base you received your basic training, or another base in the same, or distant state, or you may receive your technical training at the same base as your permanent duty station base. Your permanent duty station base is where you'll likely serve your entire tour of duty, which may also be one of the bases you've specified on your "dream" sheet. Its very important that you stay with the curriculum schedule of your technical training school. If you fail your testing (to measure the progress of your training and studies), you do not get a 2nd chance of remedial training. The military will cancel your chosen guaranteed job training, and you're relegated into "open job" status, which means they can assign you any job training they wish. When you fail (flush out) technical training school, you'll be assigned into "critical field" jobs, which most people don't voluntarily sign up for. I was in the Air Force, and our "critical field" jobs were: security specialist (guard detail), pavements maintenance specialist (construction labor crew member), and dietitian specialist (cook). The military will give these jobs a catchy name to make you feel this is a job you'll be proud to do, but you later find out they're jobs that really SUCKS ! I cannot emphasize the importance of this advice; DO NOT FAIL TRADE TECH SCHOOL ! You only get one chance, and there are no remedial training when you fall behind. Stay away from the enlistees club and the NCO club. These are bar and social dance scenes, just like a civilian club. All the people who are a negative influence, and will steer you away from your studies (& eventually flush out), are regular patrons at the enlistees and NCO clubs.

If I can turn back the clocks of time, I'd 1st get a college degree (bachelors), then enter into OTS (officer training school) after basic training, then eventually start my tour of duty as an O1 officer; in the Navy, this would be called an Ensign, in all the other branches, its a 2nd Lieutenant. More $$, better prestige, and respect from all enlistees (they have to salute as you walk by).
