Even within our PC world, mommies do (& WANT to do) the VAST majority of the mothering. This is intensified by the HUGE (& growing) number of divorced & never-bothered-to-marry mommies in the workforce. A woman is unlikely to "obtain ahead" of a similarly educated man if she is other leaving previously the work is done to pick up a sick child or go to soccer practice. My DH have been promoted over every similarly qualified woman his company have hired in his department (before or since he be hired). Why? Because he is THERE. Days, nights, weekends, holidays, trips to hostile countries, you identify it! The women are always disappearing early or taking breaks to move about get fertility shots, come upon the adoption atty, get little Sarah from institution because she started her period, pump breast milk, step watch teeball or tend to a helpless, useless "stay-at-home dad". When I attain sick or our son needs emergency plastic surgery (don't ask) surrounded by the middle of the week or DH misses Thanksgiving dinner, he sucks it up & does what needs to be done at work & let me handle the homefront. The truth is, no concern how "liberated" or educated a woman is, she cannot be within 2 places at once. If she chooses to be a mommy FIRST, then she is CHOOSING to be an member of staff SECOND (or THIRD). Men are not usually asked whether they want to be a parent first. They become a parent when their wife or girlfriend wants to become one & are expected (by society & most women, surrounded by general) to bring home the bacon. Even men I know who are FABULOUS stay-at-home dads get the business from sniping women.
A woman I can respect recognize that SHE is responsible for her choices. Whether she chooses to be a career woman first, a mommy first or ONLY a craft woman or ONLY a mommy, she takes responsibility for her choices. She doesn't whine almost her compensation when she knows next to certainty that she is not performing on matching level as a mannish counterpart. One woman in DH's bureau in extraordinary told him frankly: "I do not want to be promoted, I do not a raise, I want to give notice on time everyday." She get a very modest put on a pedestal because she is competent & productive & is content in her position. Another, also a mother, leaves impulsive for SOMETHING virtually everyday & never arrives on time (if she even shows up). Yet, she threw a class-A hissy fit over not mortal promoted at the same time as DH (who worked in the order of 3000 hrs last year)! She is not demanding equality, she's demanding that she be given a 'pass'. She know she hasn't earned a promotion. I own no sympathy or respect for this behavior. I don't want to work like my DH does, but I'm not pissing & moaning just about not earning as much any!
