I beleive they expect more since years former I have given what I could. Is this a discouraging gift to tender employees at Christmas time?

I deduce your gift(s) are generous. Many employer give nought. Gifts more than $25.00 are taxable to employee anyway and that to be sure wouldnt make them sunny. Gift cards are fine, they can always distribute them away if they cant use them. That's a great gift. You're a great boss!
I honestly would hold preferred cash. I own gift cards here from birthdays and Christmas from several years long-gone. When I have them, I never seem to be to need anything from the stores I enjoy them for. When a time comes I could use them, I never have them on me. Unless you're getting those contribution cards at a discount, then I can't see why you wouldn't basically give bread instead. Good on you though for even giving them anything at all.

i intuitively, dont feel an employeer have to feel they are supposed to make available christmas bonuses and when employees expect it, i infer thats kind of greedy of them. if an member of staff does get a bonus, event or other gift from their boss or anyone for that situation, they should be grateful. there are cases tho where on earth bonuses are part of the take-home pay or are suggested to be. in that baggage, when the employee does expect it for suitable reason as module of their salary, i.e. a different story. ps, i have just been an member of staff and not an employer and i am pro christmas. so to answer your question, your gifts to your human resources sound angelic. merry christmas :)
