Not looking for any conspiracy theories, but does anyone REALLY know what drives the price of gas up or down?

Please, no government bash here. That's a totally different forum. I just want to know on a imperial scale what exactly drives the price of a gallon of gas. Ultimately, who is at the rear it and who benefits?

Answers:
It used to be OPEC but as they now information for only 40% of supply (and 51% of the traded market) consequently it could be argued that they don't, though OPEC has a massive influence on the price through witholding or increasing supplies. The days when OPEC would fix the price are gone

Oil futures and options contracts are increasingly used to price the physical stuff. And as traders are tense to political risk and oil is located within "difficult" countries, then any adverse report will force up the price to discount the perceived additional cost of getting the stuff out of those 'difficult' countries. So everytime nearby is 'bad' news nearly Venezuala, Iraq, Iran, Russia or Saudi Arabia, the traders mark up the price on the exchanges and we recompense more at the pump

Other Answers:
Tension.

supply and emergency.

OPEC controls a large portion of the world's grease, so they control supply, and use it to raise and lower prices.

Like everyone else has said, largely supply and demand. These days, supply is controlled by OPEC and they approaching making money. I haven't done any extensive studies on the number of barrels that they've shipped every month, but I'm sure that information is easy to find. Cartels/monopolies maximize profits by raise prices and limiting quantity, which OPEC have done a decent employment of doing.

On the other end, we're not really helping ourselves. Demand is totally high near all of the travel that go on, along with the unbroken lack of fuel cutback in most vehicle. 1) You are behind it.
2) Oil Companies benefit from it.

If you hang on to buying more and more gasoline every year (Like you are now) you will drive the prices up.

I suggest you to find out how many gallons of gasoline does the average being consumes per a year in 1980, 1990, 2000 and very soon.

If you really want the gas prices to go down adjectives you have to do is buy a used Volkswagen (Or any other Brand) saloon with a Diesel Engine.

The Oil companies will lose a Gasoline customer forever and you will set free thousands of dollars over the years too. Supply and demand. The more SUVs doing a tour, the more gas demand and the better the prices. In the US we are too greedy and materialistic. As long as people want the biggest and the best we will see gas verbs to rise. I will actually throw a event when gas hits $8 a gallon.

Financial Models for a Service Company?

I am looking for financial models on service companies. How do they measure profitability in need a product? What all do they consider when putting together their financial plans?

Answers:
Service companies are broad and adjectives. Food service looks like a product company. Consulting, Law, etc. service looks moderately different.

If its the latter. An income statement might look like this:

REVENUES:
Revenues since reimbursements
+ Reimbursements (clients reimburse for expenses)
= Revenues

OPERATING EXPENSES:
Cost of services:
Cost of services before reimbursable expenses (mostly salary)
+ Reimbursable expenses (same as above)
= Cost of services

Sales and marketing
+ General and administrative costs
= Total operating expenses

OPERATING INCOME (Revenue - Cost of Services - Operating Expense)

Interest income
Interest expense
Other income (expense)

INCOME BEFORE INCOME TAXES (Operating Income + Interest Income - Interest Expense + Other Income)

Provision for income taxes

NET INCOME (IBIT - Provision for income taxes)

So how do they product money?

They charge a rate for their labor and pay their personnel a lower rate. I ran a fine art business years ago and quoted labor at $15 per hour but only salaried $8 per hour.

With enough painter, I could do fairly in good health. Trick was to save a pipeline of work coming which wasn't always unforced.

Should the administration investigate grease company price gouge?

Answers:
Yes the government should, but if they looked-for to they would have done so already. The reality of the matter is that American politicians are for mart and unless you have white envelopes stuffed near cash you problems don't really issue much. The oil companies own plenty so get equipped for more to come. But dont blame people buying gas guzzling vehicle. These prices rise completely independent of American demand even though its used as a primary excuse.

Other Answers:
Are gas prices superior than they use to be? Yes. How do they compare to the rest of the world? Rather low. Have we created an infrastructure and lifestyle that is amazingly dependent on gasoline? Most deffinently.

All that aside, we have a capitolistic discount. The consumers determine the prices of everything. If we vote with our dollar not to money a certain price for something, after the price will change. As in good health, all companies are contained by their business to make money. In the skin of a large grease corporation, they are in the business of making money for their thousands of share holders.

On top of an grease company making money on their product, Americans have made their product into a neccesity of energy. We are lucky we don't pay $5 or even $10 a gallon of gas. They know we want it, yet their "gouging" have only be to increase the price of something with an infinite constraint a few percent, which in piece is due to the increased price of oil from overseas.

Also, don't forget the calorific federal and state taxes on every drop of gas you buy. You try asking your local and federal congressperson where adjectives that money is going. And before you voice, the Iraq War, don't be the person who complains that Bush go to war nearby for the oil, later jump up and down that gas is too expensive when making the huge Iraqi reserves available for purchase by American grease companies. Besides, if we start buying Iraqi oil, that will drastically curtail the value of adjectives of Bush's oil holdings contained by Texas. Loosing millions of your own money is hardly a dutiful reason to invade a country. No, even if its occuring consent to it. Maybe then folks will stop buying hummers.

the cause of negativity surrounded by the workplace?

Answers:
The unaprochable supervisor, the lazy co-worker, the complaining co-worker, the insufficiency of training, harassment, nouns, the desire to move up in the cuff of command unsuccessfully, low pay rate, the constant swing of demands and how they are exicuted, a situation that was weakly handled.

Other Answers:
Lack of direction, shortage of work, uncertainty, nouns of approval, back-stabbing.....this list go on and on and on.
Apathy on a management rank.
Speaking from years of personal experience, the one thing that other made me the most miserable was the deficiency of any positive reinforcement. If I did 5,000 things, and did 4,999 of them right and got 1 wrong, you could bet your bottom dollar that it be the 1 incorrect thing that be always pointed out to me.

Second worst? Supervisors & upper paperwork who will go to the first soul they see and demand an answer, fairly than ask a question or find the correct human being for the task.

I guess what it really boils down to is insufficiency of respect. All people choice to be treated with some weigh up of respect, both by their co-workers and their supervisors alike.
Corporate greed. Forsaking everything else for the sake of profit will ultimately make a refusal environment because it always go hand-in-hand with individual over-worked, under-compensated, under-staffed, ineffectively managed, and short-sighted business practices.
