How does Macys fit the definition of a business and Rowland H. Macy an entrepreneur?
Question:
Can someone please explain in details how macys fits the definition of a business and How Rowland H. Macy fit the definition of an entrepreneur. Thanks contained by advance.
Answer:
In a nutshell, Macy fits the definition of an entrepreneur because he built a tiny business from nought to a huge multi-national corporation. He recognized a flea market trend and saw a need and chock-full it with his impression.
Macy's was founded surrounded by 1858. They underwent a interval of expansion during the 1920s and 1930s. The company went public within 1922 and began to get underway up branch stores around New York and Long Island. Acquisitions were also made outside of the New York City region. Department stores within Toledo (LaSalle & Koch 1924), Atlanta (Davison-Paxon-Stokes 1929), Newark, New Jersey (L. Bamberger & Co. 1929), San Francisco (O'Connor Moffat & Company 1945), and Kansas City (John Taylor Dry Goods Co. 1947) were purchased during this time. O'Connor Moffat be renamed Macy's San Francisco in 1947, after that becoming Macy's California, and John Taylor was renamed Macy's Missouri-Kansas within the 1950s.
In 1986 Edward Finkelstein, Chairman & CEO of R.H. Macy & Co., Inc., led a leveraged buy-out of the company and subsequently busy in a control battle for Federated Department Stores, Inc., within 1988 that he lost to Canada's Campeau Corp. As part its settlement beside Campeau, Macy's purchased Federated's California-based, fashion-oriented Bullock's and its high-end Bullocks Wilshire and I. Magnin divisions. It followed with a reorganization of its divisions into Macy's Northeast (former Macy's New York and Macy's New Jersey), Macy's South/Bullock's (Macy's Atlanta stores plus Macy's New York's operation in Texas, Florida and Louisiana), and Macy's California, the next including a semi-autonomous I. Magnin/Bullocks Wilshire organization. The Bullocks Wilshire stores be renamed I. Magnin in 1989.
Subsequently, R.H. Macy & Co., Inc., file for bankruptcy on January 27, 1992, after which point its bank brought in a latest management squad, which shut several underperforming stores, jettisoned two-thirds of the luxury I. Magnin manacle, and reduced Macy's to two divisions; Macy's East and Macy's West.
At the start of 1994, Federated began pursuing a merger near Macy's. After a long and difficult courtship, R.H. Macy & Co. finally merged with Federated Department Stores on December 19, 1994. Federated promptly shut down the remainder of the I. Magnin secure, converting several to Macy's or Bullock's and selling four in Carmel, Beverly Hills, San Diego and Phoenix to Saks Fifth Avenue. Federated also merged its Abraham & Straus/Jordan Marsh division beside the new "Macy's East" society based surrounded by New York, renaming the Abraham & Straus stores in metropolitan New York near the Macy's nameplate in 1995, and later erasing the Jordan Marsh moniker in New England within early 1996.
Federated followed that by prime a bid in mid-1995 bid to acquire the broke Woodward & Lothrop/John Wanamaker organization surrounded by the mid-Atlantic region, a bid it lost to rival group led by long-time rival and adjectives acquisition target May Department Stores. Instead Federated soon agreed to purchase Broadway Stores, Inc. (owner of The Broadway, Emporium and Weinstock's stores surrounded by California, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico), from its majority shareholder, Samuel Zell, thereby gaining a governing position in Southern California and a dominant one surrounded by the Northern California marketplace. In impulsive 1996 Federated dissolved Broadway Stores, incorporating the majority of its locations into Macy's West, rebadging them as Macy's and using the opportunity to retire the Bullock's name. Several of the redundant Broadway locations be used to establish Bloomingdale's on the West Coast, while many other be sold to Sears.
In 2001 Federated dissolved its Stern's division in the New York metropolitan nouns, with the bulk of the stores anyone absorbed into Macy's East. Additionally, surrounded by July 2001 it acquired the Liberty House fasten with department and specialty stores contained by Hawaii and Guam, consolidating it with Macy's West.
In impulsive 2003 Federated closed the majority of its historic Davison's franchise in Atlanta (operating as Macy's since 1985), rebranding its other Atlanta division Rich's beside the unwieldy name, Rich's–Macy's. The untested Macy's Lenox Square and Perimeter Mall locations were extensively remodeled and open in October 2003 as the first Bloomingdale's stores contained by Atlanta. The company rapidly followed suit contained by May 2003 with similar rebranding announcements for its other nameplates, Burdines within Florida, Goldsmith's in Memphis, Lazarus contained by the lower Midwest, and The Bon Marché in the Pacific Northwest.
On March 6, 2005, the Bon-Macy's, Burdines-Macy's, Goldsmith's-Macy's, Lazarus-Macy's, and Rich's-Macy's stores be renamed as simply "Macy's", the first two as the new Macy's Northwest and Macy's Florida divisions respectively and the after that three as part of the Macy's Central division. As of July 2005, Macy's have 424 stores throughout the U.S.
On February 28, 2005, Federated agreed to terms of a concordat to acquire May Department Stores for $11 billion in stock, creating the nation's second largest department store cuff with $30 billion within annual sales and more than 1,000 stores.
On July 28, 2005, Federated announced, base on the success of converting its own regional brands to the Macy's nickname, its plans to similarly convert 330 regional department stores owned by the May Company (as May Department Stores was commonly referred to) to the Macy's nameplate. This included May's Famous-Barr, Filene's, Foley's, Hecht's, The Jones Store, Kaufmann's, L.S. Ayres, Meier & Frank, Robinsons-May, and Strawbridge's chains, pending approval of the merger by federal regulators. This be met with distrustful reaction surrounded by many of the local areas of these department stores because they be considered local institutions in those regions. Where Macy's stores be in close proximity to May Company stores, some redundant stores would be closed while others would be converted to Bloomingdale's, Federated's luxury tie up.
On September 20, 2005, Federated announced that all of its Marshall Field's stores (including the mythical State Street store in Chicago) would become Macy's by the wrap up of 2006, becoming the new Macy's North division. This second announcement was met next to negative publicity as Marshall Field's have long been considered a Chicago institution.
On January 12, 2006, Federated announced its plans to divest May Company's Lord & Taylor division by the expire of 2006 after concluding that chain did not fit next to their strategic focus for building the Macy's and Bloomingdale's national brands. On June 22, 2006, Macy's announced that NDRC Equity Partners, LLC would purchase Lord & Taylor for US$1.2 billion, and completed the sale contained by October 2006.
On February 21, 2006, Macy's appointed a new chief marketing officer, Anne MacDonald, to oversee the transformation of Macy's into a "national department store." By September 9, 2006, and after renaming the former May Company locations, Macy's operate approximately 850 stores in the United States.
On February 27, 2007, Federated Department Stores announced plans to revision its corporate name from Federated Department Stores, Inc., to Macy's Group, Inc.[5] By March 28, the company further announced plans to convert its stock ticker symbol from "FD" to "M", and revised its ahead of time proposed name coppers, instead opting to swing to Macy's, Inc. If approved by shareholders, the change would bring place on June 1, 2007. The company will continue to operate stores lower than both the Macy's and Bloomingdale's nameplates.
Best Buy warranty return voucher program?
Question:
Has anyone used Best Buys warranty voucher program, where you ship your product to Dallas TX and they any return the item fixed or a gift card for the amount of the item? Does it really work similar to this? Any problems? Any catches? My Ipod have been gone for almost a week immediately. Do they notifiy me when my product is recieved? If not how should i contact them?... Any info helpful, thank you!
Answer:
There is nil wrong with the warranty program at best buy. I still buy the replacement plan or service plan on the difficult priced items. It doesn't make sense on the cheaper items. I come up with that most companies are upset because they were not the first to assume about it. The company sell these plans on anything from phones to television sets. In the valise of the replacement plan if your item is broken before the plan possession is up they replace your item. No questions. They also own a product service plan which is different obviously from a replacement plan. These are on the larger items such as television or computers. These items in abundantly of cases actually find fixed instead of returned. They have the geek squad on mitt to find out what your problem is with your computer. Other items do bring sent off for repairs.
If you call for to check on your item. Go into the store or call them and seize the phone number to check on your item from customer service. You may even be able to find this information online.
They do lots of returns and exchanges short these plans within a confident timeframe. They then resell these items as initiate items and mark down the price. If the item is completely broken they return them to the capitalist. All they want is your receipt and they exchange your items. They also do returns although within some cases they do charge restocking fees.
A company with a horrible program is Kmart. Now i.e. a company that does not do many returns or exchanges. They even own special wording on the back of their receiving that is complicated to see and in really small letters. I tried to return my TV in attendance and they would not take it put a bet on even with the bill and the replacement plan. They wanted me to correspondence the television somewhere, even though on the front of the reception it said I had 90 days to return it. Bad business. I lone shop there when don't consistency like waiting surrounded by line.
BEST BUY IS AWFUL! They are borderline undemocratic in their denial of warranty and discount requests. They will not exchange items, and they have a corporate policy that instructs team to "Give customers with returns a easier said than done time"!!
It was reported on within several newspapers and journal so far... there is even a book written around this corporate strategy to weed out so called "Bad Customers".

What is the best course to conscript executive board member to a tech start-up?
Question:
What is the best way to approach execs approaching CIOs and VPs in Oil and Gas corporations to assist in a tech startup specifically focused on the O&G sector?
My personal network does not include that copious such contacts. However an exec in the sector would know how to provide invaluable insights into the requirements of the sector, open plentiful doors and provide referrals.
Also are nearby any pitfals to watch out for such as conflict of interest issues, etc.
Any suggestions would be extremely adjectives.
Answer:
To avoid the twin traps of conflict and time availability I would start with just this minute retired execs. You also may not want more than one guru from a large company so be sure to look at smaller exploration companies. The guys near big company experience have golden rol-o-dexs but won't know beans roughly speaking the start-up environment.

Bankruptcy Business Records?
Question:
We have a small company getting in place to file liquidation and have be in business 20
+ years. Can you describe me how long and what records we have need of to hold onto.
Answer:
You need to retain the collection you would normally retain for IRS purposes (you own to retain these for 7 years anyway) . You should also retain your current accounts payable and accounts receivable records (copies of bills, and invoices) and any other documentation that you would enjoy to attach to support the invoices to your customers. I would also retain shipping/receiving records for the later couple of years.
Ask your attorney if there is anything else he recommend.

Where can I find informations roughly Indian workforce legislation?
Question:
I can not find information on the Indian labour legislation (weekly hour work, minimum wages, grind contract...). I have check beside G00GLE but nothing. Somebody can give support to me!
Answer:
http://www.indiatogether.org/2006/feb/ed...
India's minimum wage law, the Minimum Wages Act of 1948, recognised the argument for minimum protections, but have since fallen significantly bringing up the rear. The law itself is immediately nearly 60 years old - a time during which inflation have raised costs several hundred percent - and does not set a specific minimum wage for adjectives provisions, instead leaving it to the states to set occupation-specific wages. But, the states own largely had an anti-poor history in setting minimum wage level; witness the massive variation contained by wages across the nation from Rs.25 a day - a ridiculously low digit - to a high of Rs.134, itself still questionable. While some revisions within specific areas have be made apart from this Act, there have been no revision of this decree on an all-encompassing scale.
