Should the code on the back of credit card be given out on line?
Answers: Yes, as long as it is a SSL encrypted site. They require that number to prove you acutely have the card in your possession. It's too easy to get some ones credit card number (the one on the front) and use it on line, so now they require all the info, even the billing address needs to be verified.

yes you can -But it feels dam scarey I must admit as it has not been asked for that long. You are sort of caught really as if you do not give it, you cannot continue with the purchase.
The 3 digit code will match the numbers and name on the front that is all. I think it is their to stop counterfeiting which of course is rampart these days. So sad really that someone would try to steal my and your hard earned dollars.
I always check the site is secure, just check it is first. A message box will come up as you go through the checkout telling you whether it is a secure site or not.
If you are not happy do not use it. Instead wire the money or
post a cheque. A little more bother but in the end it is safer.

Why be my credit card charged US$1?
I joined Audible.com lately. I tried to buy an book from them but was rejected due to unsuitable geographic location. I tried to abolish it but found it impossible to cancel. Anyway, I emailed them indirectly to ask them to abet me to cancel. Today, I be shocked to discover that US$1 has be deducted by audible.com. I did not buy anything from them. Anyone know why?Answers: most places that set up accounts for free, or who keep card numbers on database will run the card through for 1 dollar to see if it is a good card and is alive. Most likly in 3-5 days the money will be refund by them. Credit cards are quick to charge you but require upto 7 days to settlement this money. If they do not just appointment your issuer and tell them you did not purchase anything and they should settlement it too. I bet they already have a request to reverse the charge.hope that help
