What exactly is a credit hold. My mom tried to get a cell phone and was denied because of a credit hold help?
Answers: There are two types of holds:
1) If you use the card for something where the total amount you pay isn't known up front (like a hotel bill: they don't know if you'll rent an on-demand movie), then they will "hold" a certain amount of credit.
If that held credit causes your card to get maxed out, all future purchases will come up "denied" until the hold is released.
2) If the credit card company suspects credit card fraud, they will put a "hold" on the entire account until the card owner calls them on the phone and confirms that no fraud has taken place.
It means that there is a problem with her credit. Most likely an issue with a credit card. If she had a card lost or stolen this is likely to happen as well.
Otherwise, she may have other credit problems as well.
If she continues to have problems, it would be in her best interest to obtain a copy of her credit report and review it for incorrect information.
