Why nearby is a collection debt within my credit report?
Hi, I just reviewed my credit report at Experian. But in attendance is a "collection debt" from Bank of America in my report. Weird article that I never opened any accounts in that. Where does this debt come from?Answers: Have you ever had a desperate debt for a credit card? It could be that Bank of America services that card. Contact Experian and dispute the collection item. They will check into it further for you. It is not uncommon for Credit Reporting Bureaus to be wrong. And hopefully, you hold had not your identity stolen. This, too, is a possibility.
Did you enjoy a car loan you default on? Do you have any details that you defaulted on?
It could be that the loan go thru Bank of America or they own the credit card that you might have have etc. Doesn't mean you open a bank statement with them. It system they own the loan.
You should check at the other two agencies, the same report could be near as well. Be aware that it could be a satchel of identity theft. Will participating in Consumer Credit Counseling affect my credit score negatively in any way?
Answers: Absolutely. Any time there is an accomodation or payment that settles or otherwise compromises the original terms and ocnditions of the contract of repayment, there is going to be a negative report. In theory, the creditor can not agree not to report negative information. Most CCC programs require you to be in default before they will accept you, and most repayment programs by definition mean you are paying while in default.
The question is, will making the payments for a lower amount be better in the long run than just allowing the default to continue, become more serious, without payment. For most people, the CCC programs are the better choice. But not all.
I used a service to lower my payments and it was the best thing I ever did. I am almost out of debt now. It would have taken me a lot longer if I didn't use the service. My scores are way up, by the way.
Can you do it on your own? I don't know.
