Answers: Original debt of somewhere around $3,000? It depends on the interest thats been charged on it.

If you default on this debt 5 years ago you really should pull your credit reports from Transunion and Equifax. These things "drop off" your credit report after six years, and when dealing with the debts you'll want to be cautious to avoid "renewing" the debt or it will be on your credit report for another six years.

Get your credit reports, find out where you stand and after decide what course of motion you'll take.
First route would be that you wait another two years as your debt will expire next to statue of limitations and you would not have to settle a cent. But you will be denied credit for next two years. The second picking would be to get your credit reports from Equifax.ca and Transunion.ca and contact your creditors/collection agencies. You enjoy to make a business that they would remove the derogatory accounts from your credit report if you pay them. Make sure you grasp that in writing past you send a cheque. This is call pay-for-delete.

Is it unpromising to repeal a credit card?

Ok I got this credit card and next found I was one totally ripped of when I got my first bil and it be a $250 processing fee charged, near a $300 dollar credit limit! I wrote a check for the integral thing and will enjoy the credit be at zero. I want to put an end to this card. Is it bad for my credit?

Answers: I would not recommend closing it. If the annual charge is liveable then newly leave it alone. Cut up the card and don't use it.
... your FICO evaluation takes into consideration something call a "credit utilization ratio". This ratio basically looks at your total used credit surrounded by relation to your total available credit; the higher this ratio is, the more it can negatively affect your FICO win. So, by closing an old or unused card, you are essentially wipe away some of your available credit and there by increasing your credit utilization ratio.

It's a bit tricky, so here's an example:

Say you enjoy 3 credit cards. Credit card 1 has a $500 go together and a $2000 credit limit. Credit card 2 is an unused card near a zero match and a $3000 limit. Credit card 3 have a $1,500 balance and a $1,500 mark out. In this scenario your credit utilization ratio looks like this:

Total balance = $2,000 ($500 + $1,500)
Total available credit = $6,500 ($2,000 + $3,000 + $1,500)
Credit utilization ratio = 30% (2,000 divided by 6,500)

Now, if you decide to close credit card 2 because it's an ripened card that you never use, your credit utilization ratio looks like this:

Total balance = $2,000 ($500 + $1,500)
Total available credit = $3,500 ($2,000 + $1,500)
Credit utilization ratio = 57% (2,000 divided by 3,500)

You can see that your utilization ratio rose from 30% to 57% by closing the unused credit card.

Read up about your credit mark and what impacts it BEFORE you be paid a decision that you get the impression is best for you.
Do you have one or two other cards? It's flawless to keep a few expand with flurry, so you can show good fee history.

However, a $250 processing fee seem a bit ridiculous. Read the fine print of your contract; but bottom line, I'd dump the card.
You shouldn't enjoy activated that card at adjectives. Nor paid that tax. Instead you should have sent them a communiqu¨¦ cancelling that picture and requested all fees be credited sour.

At this point, it is very doubtful they will reimbursement that $250 but send a epistle to cancel and ask for a return anyway. Also request they send you written substantiation that the account is closed and the harmonize is 0. This is definitely one of those rip sour credit cards and you want to keep a copy of your note and their confirmation.
