This Taxi cab company accept credit cards, so I don't see what the big deal is. He is approaching people that are going a short distance usally only pay currency. As a merchant, it makes sense to adopt credit cards for bigger amounts, but not for small amounts. Big businesses have no trouble next to accepting card payments even for a dollar transaction, but small businesses can feel the pinch of those fees that sometimes he'd a bit not have the compensation than be charged with adjectives those fees for accepting a debit card payment
I agree near the others that its probably due to processing fees and not being competent to keep the adjust. If they are really bothered by it, then they should enjoy a sign or forwarn you that there is a minimum fare if you use a card. That's their quirk. Not your's. In the future, if you ever hold anything like that come up to you, I would say to them "You call for to have a sign that warn people that cards are singular accepted if the fare is at smallest x amount."
