Answers: the default stays on for six years during this time every place you apply for a credit card will know roughly the default and you will be rejected automatically by the computer program the company uses. it is of no consequence that three years hold elapsed the result will stll be the same. decline !
stop applying because every time you apply your credit score will progress down accept the reality that you have a ccj and you will hold to wait. you will be stuck next to a debit card for the forseeable future a ccj is the worst entity you can have on your credit folder
Some usefull tips here.

Answers: Payday loan stores.

Should we not give the number printed on our debit card or credit card to anyone like shop keepers?

Answers: Be careful with your card, but merchants need it to complete your transaction.

Keep an eye on your credit report if you're concerned. All the major credit bureaus -- Experian, TransUnion and Equifax -- sell credit monitoring services, so you can see if someone is using your credit account. For debit, you can also monitor your account online for unauthorized transactions.

If you're REALLY worried, put a credit freeze on your credit. That will cause the credit bureaus to refuse to grant any new credit in your name. (See http://www.creditcards.com/credit-card-f... for details)

Recognize that to some degree, you're always at risk, whether you use cash, credit or debit. You could drop your wallet. You put three $20s and a $10 in your jeans, forget them and have the money fall out in the washing machine. You could run into a dishonest waiter who "skims" your credit card. A hacker could break into the grocer's computer system and steal your card number and those of 5,000 other people.

The keys are to be alert, and to report irregularities quickly. The law limits your losses, if you spot and report the problems quickly
The number on your card is what makes it work. You pretty much have to give it to the shopkeeper. What you do NOT want to let them keep, or rather throw in the waste, is any carbon copy with the number on it. You don't see that much these days anyway, so it's not as big of a worry.

Also, when ordering online, like with Amazon, you have to give your number on there too. No number, no purchase. Simple.

Unfortunately, anyone unscrupulous can rip you off regardless. Whether it's the shopkeeper, or a hacker who works for an internet shop, or just some guy at the store who saw the receipt, your number could potentially be used.

Be smart. Check your bank / credit statement often, and immediately report any activities that you find suspicious to your bank or credit card company. Most banks these days are very good about getting right on any potential thefts. As it is though, you are responsible for yourself. With freedom, ease, and convenience comes responsibilities that we have to take care of. One is to be on top of your finances.
Well, there's not much way to use your card if you don't give them the numbers. They take those to verify that you are using an authentic card, so if they ask, you pretty much need to give them.

Obviously, every time you use your card, there's some risk of a merchant stealing it, but usually that won't happen.
