Hey, I live in the state of New York. Recently someone stole my credit card number and used it to purchase a laptop. My guard credited me for the fradulent purchase already. I called Best Buy and they told me where on earth and to who the laptop was deliver to. Since the address is nearby, I go there looking for this creature but was not competent to find her. I did however confirm that she does exist. What should I do, being that I do enjoy the persons mark and address. Should I file a police report? What would they do?
Answers: Jason D, have the best answer, you have already done your homework, by contacting them. I would suggest you ask them for another credit card, if they haven't given you one already. I would take home a police report, just to be on the out of danger side, since the credit card wasn't physically stolen, just used online. I wouldn't called for volunteer information, if they do an investigation, they will find out who stole this information, it all depends on the credit card company, how they(their investigative dept.) will knob this. I know you tend to want to find out all you can around this, and I know you feel violated, but you should consent to the professionals handle it. Now what I would be wondering is , do you know anyone that know this person that stole your credit card number? I'm wondering how she get it? That's the real mystery?
You've alrady contacted your credit card company and they hold credited your account. I presume that subdivision of that was also cancel the account and issuing you a unsullied number.
It is up to the credit card company to pursue legal achievement against the person who use fraudently used your credit card.
If you're still worried in the order of the stolen credit info, you can put on fraud alert for 90 days through Trans Union Fraud Dept. Their toll free # 1-8OO-680-7289. They will notify the other 2 bureaus for you at no cost. It has to be renewed every 90 days yes you should and retract the credit card even though they stopped it. The numbers possibly out there in a minute so just own them send you a contemporary one or cancel the acct. Then of late talk to the police and see what they would do.
the credit company will report against the person. You may be needed to verify that the card be stolen
