My doctor is charging me $5.00 for a copy of my lab work. They enunciate this is a Hepa tenet; is this true?

Answers:    It's HIPPA law, and no they don't require doctors to charge a levy when giving you a copy of your lab work.
I have never hear of a doctor charging for copy of lab because of a HEPA law. I believe that providers are allowed to charge a logical fee for copies.
I'm not aware of any directive that *requires* a provider to charge you for a copy of your records, but the ruling does *permit* them to charge you a reasonable duty for the information.

(Reasonable fee would cart into consideration the cost of the photocopies and also the staff time to pull/copy the info.)
They are allowed to charge a reasonable charge for ANY copy of ANYTHING. Lab results, medical records, etc. copy of any of your lab work have to be given to you free of charge by law. HEPA ruling is a privacy act. does not own anything to do with lab. I work contained by a medical billing. this is my job.
I obtain copies of medical records adjectives the time to settle claims, and it's rediculous how much some places charge. I just have to pay a doctor's department $22 to get 2 page of records.

HIPAA(Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act) doesn't require office to charge for anything, so I think they're pulling your secure a little at hand, but $5 for records is in actual fact a lot smaller number than most places I get them from.
