In Massachusetts, what is a better place to work - an insurance company or an insurance agency?

Answers: It's PURELY personal preferance.

I was actually IN MA for my 18 months at a company. Great company, but I decided I didn't LIKE working at a company. I much prefer the agency side of things.
In my career in the insurance industry I have worked both with insurance companies and with insurance agencies. Nobody can really tell you where the better place to work is. I can give you some pros and cons.

On the company side, depending upon the position you seek, you can choose to be insulated from the public and not be required to deal with those pesky customers. If you want that people contact you can choose to be an adjuster or you can choose to be an insurance agent.

If you want a steady reliable income go with a company job. If you want the potential to earn a salary based on your ability and skill an insurance agency position is something to consider particularly if there is an opportunity of ownership down the road.

If you want a job that is 9 to 5 Monday through Friday go with a company. If you are in an agency you will likely be making evening appointments and working on Saturdays to catch up on what you couldn't get done during the week.

If your the more self sufficient, independent type go with an agency. If you like more structure to a career path go with a company.

I could go on but I hope you get the idea. I started my career on the insurance company and gained some very valuable knowledge and experience but I always knew I wanted to work in an agency environment.
