You would have to talk to each insurance company to get on any list. Keep in mind, they are going to be very picky about who they put on their list. There are too many fly by night operations out there and an insurance company is not going to risk their reputation on just anyone.
Keep in mind - when an insurance company recommends you - it's the insurance company reputation that goes with you.
Don't know about other states or companies, but my company, in TN, doesn't have a "list" of builders. Our adjusters write the estimates, and it's the policy holder's option to choose whomever they want to make repairs(that way we don't have to uphold other people's guarantees). The thing you might want to do is a meet and greet with many of the local agents. The agents have quite a big influence over who people choose to make repairs to the homes or cars.

It also depends on which sort of insurance you are considering selling. Property and Casualty can be an easier sale than Life and Health.
The big point about insurance is that it costs money and thats something relations don't want to part near easily unless they really have need of the insurance and then the insurance company won't appropriate them anyway.
Also, be prepared to be holding a phone book in one foot and a phone in the other if you are surrounded by one of the companies that doesn't advertise.
Also, past you go surrounded by there try and write up 100 family who you think you could hike up to and ask to sell insurance, because thats the first point they are going to ask you to do. Then you actually enjoy to go do it, probably earlier you even learn much in the order of what insurance really is.
Also, being an insurance agent have a lot to do next to who you know. If you know a handful of people in good health that are CEOs of small businesses and you know they will setup their benefits packages through you if you just ask them to afterwards you could be getting tens of thousands a year with little to no hard work which is a big padding to bring started as an insurance agent.
