Who is responsible - me or my former employer?
I was covered below COBRA insurance September through December of 2007. I paid nearly $5,000 for this coverage to a third celebration who then sent the money to my former employer. My former employer be supposed to send the money onto the robustness insurance company. It is now mid-January and the form insurance company still has not received any payments. My former employer make it sound similar to the health insurance have the account set up surrounded by such a way that any payments they trademark won't be accepted. The narrative is incorrectly set up for me to be billed directly (but I didn't receive a bill until December). The health insurance company is very soon telling me that I will be responsible for any claims they compensated on my behalf during that time. I've contacted the Maryland Insurance Administration, but they don't know if they can do much to help me near my former employer. They have contacted the form insurance company to try to speed up getting the accoutn set up correctly. Any other ideas?Answers: Definitely not you! OK, crucial quiz - is the cobra coverage still active? If it is, start paying the premiums directly - that's the approach it's NORMALLY set up. I'd contact your department of labor, rather than the department of insurance. This really isn't an insurance issue - it's an employment issue, if your employer screwed up your benefits. From the insurance company's point of prospect, they never got transfer of funds, period. It doesn't concern if you mailed it and the post department ate it, or your employer didn't remit it. Their obligation cease if they don't get transmittal.
Contact the Department of Labor. If your former employer used a COBRA Administrator, you didn't have any other leeway than to send your form insurance premiums to them. In the end, the COBRA Administrator is responsible for the distribution of the funds you sent them. Your former employer is indirectly responsible via the contract they signed near the COBRA Administrator and their obligations to their team.
If you can afford one, contact an attorney that specializes in employment regulation. While I am not one who is quick to hire an attorney, your former employer have violated your trust and should facilate the process to set this right. One letter from an employment decree attorney with a copy to the Department of Labor and you might procure this resolved very hurriedly.
However, what are you doing for health insurance in a minute? If are relying on this COBRA coverage it has most promising been terminated. If I be in your situation and depending on the COBRA coverage, I would help yourself to out an individual health insurance plan until this situation is resolved. I know you shouldn't hold to do this but I wouldn't want to be without coverage.

Medicare subdivision A, B, and D?
My aunt has medicare, and adjectives medicare receipients has other had part of the pack A and B right? Then, when did presecription D get added? Now we own to pay a monthly premium for my aunt who is a senior citizen. And the premium have gone up this year, to a lot! I want to know these question.1. Can we choose the price plans for part A and B?
2. Is piece D necessary or can we newly have division A and B?
3. Anyone else frustrated with this ??
Answers: Most general public pay no premium for Part A unless you (or a spouse) didn't reimburse into the Medicare system while working.
Part B has a minimum premium of $96.40. However, at hand are subsidies available for low income people and glorious income people may foot up to $160. Check with Medicare to see if she qualify for a subsidy.
Part D became available contained by 2006. This is for prescription drugs. You do not have to own Part D. However, if you don't have it you can with the sole purpose sign up during annual enrollment from November 15 through December 31 and there will after be monetary penalties to repay. If she is currently on Part D she cannot drop the coverage until January 1 2009.
Part C is the Medicare Advantage plans. Many of these will have a $0 premium and several include Part D. If she does not have any vigour insurance other than ingenious Medicare she can sign up until March 31. This is the open enrollment time. If she doesn't she'll be locked out of getting on a plan until next annual enrollment. If she procure a plan that includes drugs she can drop her current drug plan (this is the only mode she can drop it) and possibly save money. This also is usually the lowest possible expensive option.
There are also Medicare Supplement plans available. If she is on one she can transmutation to a Medicare Advantage plan during open enrollment and drop the supplement and the Part D.
She should stop by a local independent agent that works in the senior souk to see what her options are.
