What is the first nationally recognized HMO?

Answers: Ross-Loos Medical Group, started in Los Angeles in 1929, is considered the first HMO. They eventually became Cigna. HMOs peaked in the late 50's and declined in the 60's into the early 70's. The HMO act of 1973, authored by Senator Kennedy, provided government subsidies to the HMOs along with mandates that employers offer HMOs to their employees. Of course, in 2001 he became one of the biggest opponents of HMOs, now touting nationalized health care.
Hmm. I know Fallon was around 20 years ago . . . I can't think of anyone older.

What's the difference between Co-pay and a deductable?

I'm stupid when it comes to insurance. Through my job I enjoy BCBS health ins and I a short time ago got Dental. I am used to paying a co-pay next to the Health Ins. I had some dental work done and asked if nearby was a co-pay to be settled while i be there. They said oh you close-fisted the deductable. I paid that a short time ago wanting to take diligence of SOMETHING before I disappeared. What is a deductable compared to a Co-pay?

Answers: The short answer is: a copay is a set dollar amount that you pay at respectively visit. It is deduct from what the doctor gets rewarded. The deductible is an amount that you have to settle before the insurance pays anything.

For example: If a doctor bills $85 for a simple sick stop by, the insurance is contracted to pay $55.17 for that call in. (There's a negotiated rate for every participating doctor for every insurance - they enjoy to take this expenditure, they can not expect anything extra.) If you have a $20 copay, the insurance is going to convey the doctor a check for $35.17 - it's expected that your $20 copay will make up the rest of the $55.17. Now, for that same drop by, if you have a deductible, you will be expected to pay envelope the full $55.17, and the insurance will inform the doctor in writing that you are to be billed for and rate that amount. You will do something like that every time you see the doctor until your deductible is met. (And deductibles compass from $50 to $5000 a year.)

Now, if you have "co-insurance" - you'd be paying a percentage of the call on. (Of the $55.17, if your co-insurance is 15%, you pay $8.28, the insurance pays the rest.)

Because insurance company contracted rates are WAY cheaper than bread prices, I advise citizens with deductibles and co-insurance to consent to their insurance be billed FIRST, because the insurance will figure out how much the tolerant owes. If they have a copay, providers are obligated to rob that at the time of service.
If your deductible is say $100, next the first $100 of dental expenses are what you must pay out of your pocket...up to the amount of the deductible.

After the $100 deductible, later every expense is shared by you and your insurance company - usually like 20% co-payment.

I
The deductible is how much you reimburse out of your pocket, before the insurance even kick in.

The copay, is AFTER the insurance kick in, how much you ALSO own to pay.

So. If your deductible is $1,000 near a 20% copay, and you have $2,000 of dental work, you settle the first $1,000, AND 20% of the rest - or $200, for a total of $1200.
a copay is a specific dollar amount that the insured pays for a sevice. a deductible is a dollar amount the insured must meet until that time the insurance company pays anything. some plans have a deductible that you must come across before you enjoy a copay also.

Most places hold some sort of free clinic available. You can also call around and find a provider that offer a discount for cash paying patients. You'd be amazed at how heaps are willing to do so.

BTW~ I have strep throat a few weeks ago and will tell you that you want to go asap. Mine progressed greatly quickly and get to the point where it feel like my throat needed to close up on me at times. Not fun.
you can find free clinics or a med check that will give dosh discounts. please dont try to treat this at home. the bacteria can run into your kidneys and you will have kidney disappointment which will be much more costly.
