How much should I fund surrounded by my HSA reason?

I am a young and unsullied working professional with high-deductible insurance and more or less $400 in my HSA. The max-deductible for my insurance plan is $1500 annually. I'm newly wondering how much I should fund in my HSA justification, without going overboard. Intuitively, it'd produce sense to fund it up to my deductible of $1500 and delay more contributions until I use some, but are within other theories on the optimal amount?

Any thoughts are welcome!

Answers: You'll want to fund the statement to the $1500 as soon as possible. Thereafter, you'll want to fund the account as much as you can afford. Remember, the money go into the account pre-tax, the funds receive interest tax-deferred, and comes out for anything medical toll free. The funds you don't use roll over year after year, so you'll have a nice nest egg within the future.

You can also use the funds for things your insurance may not cover. Generally, you can use the funds for anything that the IRS states can be deduct from your taxes; see the IRS publication http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p502.pdf for more info.
Greetings,

I am so glad that you are thinking about the adjectives. I have a casual to go rear legs in time - using your examine. If I was you, I'd max out the HSA narrative. All of the money that you put in at hand belongs to you. Your employer can't get it.

You are childlike (at age 25) and you have your undamaged life ahead of you. Think in the region of life at 35. At age 45, at 55. Do you come up with that there will be some comprehensive Medicare/Medicade that will really help yourself to care of you requests?

Will you have kids? Will your wife own good plenty coverage to provide all of the insurance costs or will you obligation to pay out of pocket?

I one-sidedly max out my HSA. I started my plan in May of ending year and was competent to provide "make up payments" into the report reaching the $5,650 amount. This amount is deductible from your taxes - a great benefit if you have a significant excise bracket.

You HDHP might change surrounded by the future also. You might run to a higher deductible of, read out, $2,500 and you will want to have that covered too.

Finally, presume of your HSA as a way to relieve cover retirement. I know for you it's 40 years away, but at 65, you can withdraw that money and spend it on anything - not of late health related. Invest the money contained by your HSA! You can do with it what you do next to a IRA, 401k or Roth. Make this money work for you and you will also have Medical wellbeing. It's transferable to others should you (God forbid) die before 65.

Hope that help.
