I was discussion to a friend last dark and she said that if my sky+ broke down that I could cancel contract and consequently become a new customer. have anyone else done this and succeeded. Or should I keep my insurance.

If the insurance is not expensive then maintain it, the call out charge is high-ranking. I got sky+ surrounded by November, this is the third box under warranty and two ring up outs to re-set a fault. You'd struggle to get Sky to reinstall a unsullied one as a new customer, as any discounts are restricted to one per household, but it may work - I wouldn't close to to guarantee it though.
