My hubby collects SSDI. He have a Major Stroke at the age of 31, 5 days before the infamous 9/11. He be in ICU, watching TV during the tower attacks.
He is a paraplegic, which routine 1/2 of his body is not functional. His right side's effects: Right arm very half-hearted and curled in toward his chest. Right leg's foot is curled contained by "like a banana" and the leg is exceedingly rigid and has to be bent manually.
He can not saunter; dependent on a wheelchair 100% of the time for the rest of his life. Cause of stroke: High Blood Pressure. Why not avoided/avoidable? He be adopted and those medical documentation on his birth parents were not for sale. What can he do? Stand for up to three minutes (he could not stand the entirety of our wedding vows, which be speeded up to 7 minutes). I assist him with hygenics. He can do small domestic chores close to gather trash, verbs items in the sink, do a nouns of laundry. He can not drive now, but I am hopeful, provided I can find the right resources to acquire the altered vehicle). His speech is slurred, and he have a difficult time with some junk mail like S and TH, accordingly, people assume he is retarded (big mistake), but his mental services are sharp. Any personality traits of his are multiplied by his complaint, meaning, that he be very tidy beforehand, now he lines things up contained by piles and piles to "be tidy". He was heartfelt before, close to his adopt mom (desceased), today his is VERY emotion driven to the point of distraction!

I do know of a gal who collects full SSDI at $2200 per month [more than Hubby's], and her disability is a skin affliction...she works full time of over $70k per year, is 100% mobile, independent and, apparently has a great charge preparer.
If my hubby did not have SSDI, we would literally be on welfare because my wages are to hand poverty for the county I live in (I earn same wages in 1992), but due to my age of 50, solely a 2 yr degree, and need insurance, I have have to settle for this job. My hubby and my income together are 1/2 of the average income per line for this county, so we would MAYBE qualify for some subsidies, but unlikely, because there are poorer folk than us, and we are not of minority see or "single parent" , which is considered firstly over us.
I am hopeful that you Honestly are considering SSDI because you are truly needing it, and not of late someone out to milk the system.

There are many-but the main ones are that you enjoy earned ample "work credits", are unable to work (any style of work-not just the giving you were doing since you were disabled) and own a condition or diagnosis on the approved list of disabilities from Social Security.
