How long does a shareholder own to continue to acquire a company's dividend?

Is it upto the company to declare when it pays a dividend or is it pretty set by decree (i.e. if you do have a dividend, it should be distributed every 60 days?)

And when I read that a stock have "Div and Yield" of 2.6%, that means that if I held that stock for one year, I will earn 2.6% interest on my purchase price, correct?

Thanks!

Answers: Dividends are a bonus of stocks when you acquire them.. Some companies, don't even recompense dividends.. Different companies also pay dividends different times..When they payment them,, they will state , Owners of record from a secure date, will be paid anything the percent of dividend.. I have some that wage quarterly, and some semi-annually..If your an investor with long possession goals, you would want to do a dividend reinvest.. This finances all your dividends are held until a share of stock can be purchased, and thereby growing you position surrounded by the company..You can't really say a dividend percent is virtuous or bad, because, talent blue chip companies, you know are going to grow, and their stock with them, so dividends sometimes are not full-size..Sometimes where within is great risk and the company needs money for growth, they will proffer a large percent of dividend, and your money invested will be at greater risk for loss..There like mad to consider before investing near a company..The 2.6 percent is not based on your purchase price, because your stock could shift up or down.. Rather it is based on the stock efficacy per share, at the time of dividend ..If you had a $100 share at div. it would surrender $2.60 per share..paid at doesn`t matter what time frame the company indicated.. Confusing, however with comprehension, its pretty basic.. Good Investing Luck!! SOLOMON
adjectives stocks sometimes give dividends,,,,,it is a dollar amount described annually..most compensate quarterly..so if it is a dollar..then you will achieve 25 cents each quarter.....the date are announced and if you own the stock, they will notify you ahead of time.....
