I own a friend who asked if he should whip a loan for tuition to start 401K contributions or merely foot tuition
He currently is paying tuition for school and have started a full time job for one year. He didn't put anything into his 401K need the cash to wages for tuition. After one year, now his company have a 6% match. I told him to filch the loan since there will be other something he is going to need to foot and start contributing now while he is childish (26 years old) and to utilize the free money in the 6% contest from the company. Is this correct logic? I understand the getting some debt is not a virtuous thing but I quality it is critical to start the 401K ASAP otherwise something else might creep in where on earth he never starts. Thanks in credit!
Answers: Need more information.what is the % interest rate he can get on the loan and can his dosh flow cover it? If so it might be advantageous to take out the loan.
You should never use a loan to invest or warranty you to invest. It is great to start invest early and especially at his age. The problem near many population is that one loan leads to another. The answer(since he is young) is to work overtime or use the money he is already earn to pay the tuition. Start the 401K but work similar to hell to pay sour any loans or other expenses you may have.
I work near teacher who are still paying on student loans 10 years after they enjoy been schooling. Now think of what that money could own done in a mutual fund over 10 years?
You are 100% right to achieve him started in the 401K but he will hold to mange his money right to pay tuition also.
