What does point method within stock flea market.?
i want to learn something like stock. i know when someone say that this company lost 5 percent today but what that mingy when they say on tv that nasdaq lost 300 points. or something close to that . please give any website when i can cram something.Answers: It depends on the index. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) - one of the oldest and most recognized indexes - started out taking 30 companies, calculation their stock prices together, and that was the index number. A point is only just a single whole number of that sum (or 1.00).
The subsequent time you gathered the prices of those companies and added them together you would acquire a different number. So if the first time you add the prices together you find 300 and the next time you arrive at 303.. you could say-so the index went up 3 points.
Since the creation of the DJIA the index have removed and added companies, their stocks havesplit, and paid dividends. So the computation for that index is much more complex immediately. but the idea started out simple.
Other indexes are computed surrounded by different ways but to answer your question the above still applies... a point is simply a single intact number of that index (again 1.00).

However most would suggest "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham is the best investment book ever written (I agree but Jason's book is much shorter and more comprehensive IMHO).
The NASDAQ is a group of stocks. It is suppose to represent what the open market did that day. It trades at around 2,300. So when it drops 300 points contained by 1 day it loses 13% contained by 1 day.

If republicans win, the market will stir up, if democrats win the market will container. BUT, either path long run the market will move about up. I don't think gaming the market like you're suggesting is a biddable idea.
I don't ponder we're in a recession as helen suggests. I've never hear of a recession with 3% GDP growth and lone 5% unemployment.
Helen - Per wikipedia "a recession is a decline within a country's gross domestic product (GDP), or negative valid economic growth, for two or more successive base of a year." You suggested that we are in a recession and that it is a reality. You are wrong, it is not a fact. We may be within a recession but no one can all the same know this as a fact.
