Would a professional stock trader ever buy stocks without puts in place?

Answers: Yes. I think you will find it much more common for a professional stock trader to hold a stock position without protective puts than with protective puts.

A long stock position plus a long protective put position is the synthetic equivalent of a long call position. Both have the same risk-reward profile. If a professional trader wanted that risk-reward profile it would make far more sense for him to get it holding one position (the long calls) instead of two positions (the long stock plus the long puts).

Is Gold/Platinum jewelry a good investment?

Answers: No. Jewelry is not an investment. Buy it, enjoy it, but don't fool yourself.

Gold is trading near an all time high. Not the best time to buy it as an investment. Wait for a large retracement in price, before buying it.

No. If you want to buy gold because you like the way it looks, that is great. But don't try and use the excuse that it is an investment. First of all, the gold used in jewelry isn't usually completely pure. Also, it has a very high mark-up. Finally, every time you wear it, you are running the risk of losing or damaging your investment.

Now, you can buy gold coins and bars for a great investment. But you shouldn't wear them out of the house.
Not really, though gold jewelry is always beautiful...
