Why is the prospectus for an Initial Public offering referred to as The Red Herring Prospectus?
Answers: The "Red Herring" version is the one that is given to investors before it has been formally submitted to the FTC. Actually, usually it goes through many revisions.
The cover is printed in red as an indication that it is essentially a draft of the real registration.
"Red herring" is a term that means a distraction from the real objective. I think it has emerged as a semi-humorous acknowledgement that a lot of effort is put into writing and revising the prospectus that is a diversion from the business the company will be engaged it.
More buyers=More demand-> increase in the stock's price, but why?
Answers: more buyers = more demand. very true.
its like bidding.when A is ready to pay 10 for a stock(which is in demand.lets take it as anything), B is willing to pay 15...maybe C will pay 20 for the same thing.
so lets say A got it for 10..and he owns the shares now...he believes this thing will do well.so he asks 20 for it and C pays him 20...
so now C has the share for 20.and he wants to book profits...so he sells it off at 30 to anyone who is willing to buy...
so millions of people interact in the same way and thus...the prices move up and more people want it...they have to pay more to get it...and thus more buyers means...increases demand...increased prices...
i am not sure if i was able to explain it properly...but do tell me if you couldt understand it...i will try to explain again.
Because there are only a limited supply of stock. So more people start competing by paying higher prices to get the limited number of shares available
