Is it of late declared dividends/shares?

Would an investment banker earn over £1 million a year (including bonus)?

Answers: In January 2007 investment firm Sloane Robinson confirmed that a City banker collected £58.6m in earnings in less than a year and a half! It goes on to say: 'He was one of 10 partners at the firm who shared a £208m pot between them in the 16 months to March 2006.' More on link below.
Top bankers at Goldman Sachs pockets about £2.2 million in their pay in Jan, so yes. it is very much possible.

Acquistion and Merger bankers earn the most.
If he is a director of the bank, the answer is yes of course.

But why are you asking? Thinking of becoming one?
Having an investment banker in the family I know - yes they can.

Depends what level they are in.

A beginning investment banker wont. A director of a good bank could and more.

Do they EARN it?

Yes.

They work incredible hours, ( a series of 3 am finishes coupled with 7 am starts including weekends does happen - in fact cant be avoided - sometimes for weeks or months - no idea how anyone can survive that - an short day when things are really lax is 8 or 9am start, 7.30 finish, so away from home 11 hours or more - they are usually selected from the best of the best - many apply, few get in - lots drop out after a year or two because of the hours and pressure, or because despite the strict selection process (upwards of 10 interviews plus psych test) they just dont have what it takes - and never reach a decent level or anywhere near the earning you mention - and to reach the top they have to have huge knowledge and skills, as well as the right personality, manners, style etc.

And they need to add so much value that the track record they have mean businesses are more than glad to use their services and sign up to pay the fees.
Yes. But the term investment banker can mean many things, for example sales people, M&A analysts, traders, quants could all be called bankers. If you're good in any of those roles you could make 1 million/year. You have to realize that in-order to make that 1mil you need to earn your firm 10mil+, it's not something you can do trivially - only a small number of people are capable of making that much money every year.
