What are good investment ideas?
Answers: T-bills look really really good.
For Long term investment, highest returns are given by equity/share market so far. However, gold is a good choice too. It has performed very well in the past.
You should not keep all eggs in one basket so I would suggest to go for various options like some portion in gold some portion in equity some portion in mutual funds some portion in debt funds.
Invest in Mutual Fund: These funds are a type of security that can be traded on the stock market, allowing shareholders to buy and sell shares in the funds. The revenue generated by purchase of shares is used by mutual fund manager to buy more shares of specific stocks, bonds, and other market securities and money market instruments.
Since the prices of the stocks, bonds, and other securities held by the mutual fund vary, the value of the fund changes. The average value of every share of the mutual fund is fixed daily based on the total value of the underlying securities held by the fund.
This involves the shareholders of a mutual fund directly with their investment as against those who just buy individual securities and observe as the prices fluctuate. http://debts-to-wealth.com/category/Guid...
No stocks for me this year. I'm now lending money out on Prosper to earn some interest. Hope the stock market will get better.
Is Burlington North Santa Fe a good buy for the long term future?
Answers: Warren Buffett says so. Cant argue with him. He took a huge stake in it
Yes Warren has bought and perhaps is still buying shares in the railroad. Here is what it has going for it. 7x more efficient use of fuel than trucks. Long haul tracks. Assets carried on the books at next to nothing. Access to the the western coal fields. Access to the west cost import ports where good from China and Japan flow into the country and are loaded onto their rail cars for haulage into the midwest.
There may come a time when oil sells for $500 a barrel and cars and planes are no longer economical to operate. Rail will be the only economical method of transportation. Rail does not require fossil fuels. They can operate on electricity generated by nuclear power. That is if someone would get off their duff and start building the power plants.
