Northern Rock shares?

I want to invest some money in the uk stock exchange.
But I don't know much going on for shares...Northern Rock seems approaching a cheap buy, since it's crash. I'm more into a long-term investment, than a short-term one...Can anyone tell me if these shares are pious to buy? If not, which other shares would you suggest (for long-term), and why? Plus, what do brokers charge for buying or selling shares? Thanks :-)

Answers: First rule: Don't invest money you can't afford to lose!

Second rule: Never forget the first rule!

If you're choosing a company to invest in, first of adjectives, ignore the share price. For the time man, the share price is irrelevant.

You have to ask:

Is this company making money?
Is this company paying biddable dividends?
Is this company increasing or decreasing its profits and/or dividend payments year by year?
What are the factors that will effect this company's implementation in the adjectives?
How much is the business actually worth?

Now, you look at the share price! Most companies trade at a premium to their actual appeal. If you consider the price is worth the investment, then don't verbs whether it goes up or down contained by the short term - you'll NEVER correctly adjudicate the bottom of the market, so there's no point surrounded by trying. If it's worth buying at the current price, then buy it, and consider it a long residence investment. If it goes down within the short term, don't verbs - a long term investment is not a short possession investment gone wrong! If the shares start getting even cheaper, then it's a right opportunity to buy some more!

Good companies to invest in are ones that will verbs to grow whatever the environment.

For example: Supermarket chains - everyone desires groceries.
Tobacco companies - no one will ever stop smoking, no concern how much they try to ban it!

The document goes on.

I recommend the book, "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham for some angelic tips on investing. Also "Valuegrowth Investing" by Glen Arnold.

Brokers charge their own rates - you'll have to shop around for the best rates. Don't forget you also hold to pay stamp duty on shares, and wealth gains export tax! Best thing to do is put them surrounded by a self-select ISA to avoid capital gain tax.
why would you pose a request for information like this on the internet?
You requirement to secure the suggestion of a good finacial advisor!
i invested 1 lb1000 contained by them the other day and I get lb400 back so be in motion for it i have invested more money contained by them and the rumors are that Virgin is buying them out
If you are inexperienced in share investment and are looking for a long possession investment I would strongly recommend looking for a fund based investment approaching an OEIC or an Investment Trust - let the folks who understand the market make the buying and selling decision.
Northern Rock shares are a risky investment, if virgin does get to give somebody a lift over northern rock, then if you buy them at their current marketplace price (100p) then you will variety a lot of money, but that is to say a big if, if they get nationalized after you will not loose all your money, but at smallest most of it.

I recomend UK Coal, they have alot of property and assests, permit alone their increasing investment in renewable sparkle. Some no go areas for stocks at the moment are some retail shares (espically HMV) this is down to drops within consumer spending, banks are also a impossible bet at the moment their massive returns maybe inviting but they are victims of the effects of the US Sub prime crisis. Keep aways from coffee shops for long time investments, also fincale services are a no no. Tobacco is other a good bet. If your looking for something cheap and risky try ARM Holdings. This could adjectives be rubbish, I hold no reponcibilty if you loose all your money, this is a permitted DISCLAIMER.

Remeber dont buy shares just because their cheap.
