If Obama gets elected president? will the financial markets recover, or will we get a depression?

Answers: There will be a very deep recession or possibly a depression. The country is in extremely bad financial shape. It has nothing to do with the in coming president. Whether he (or she) is a democrat or republican. Please everyone utube "financial tsunami" it will scare the heck out of you. Buy gold...just my 2 cents. Mac
I have to tell you, I have voted Republican all of my life, but I absolutely believe, that if Obama or Hillary get elected, they will do a much better job than our current President.

How could they do any worse?
An article in the Journal of FInance a few years ago shows that the stock market does better when Democrats are in office than when Republicans are in office. It isn't just a little better -- it is about 9% per year. They tested several possible reasons why this could happen -- but found that most of the reasons people had suggested didn't explain it. It wasn't just due to one or two good periods while Democrats were in office -- or one or two bad periods while Republicans are in office -- it was persistent, holding true for various sub-periods.

Democrats have a reputation for spending -- but Bush and Reagan were the real big spenders. Both presidents increased spending and cut taxes. Bot times it led to recessions. Democrats may spend -- but they pay as they go. I say look to the deficit to see why we are in trouble.

Any Democrat will be better than Bush. Most republicans would be better -- but I don't see one who can step up to the problems of the economy. Romney didn't do well in MA -- and walked away from his governorship without finishing the job. McCain is a good man -- but what does he know about economics?
Being bushwhacked by my last vote, and sick of watching select industry's flourish while others struggle to survive, convinces me to support some one with the conviction to change SOMETHING..!
Because no one seems intent to change congress, or the thieves nested up in there, .. and because Obama is as close to a generic american as is running, ...i am betting his appointment to the office will be a blessing to the aliments of far more of the markets than any one else...
But that remains to be seen... i wont bet the farm on it.

Claiming a cashed out mutual fund on my taxes.?

Hi,
I cashed out a very small mutual fund (under 500$) due to constant fees and an inability to contribute to it contained by December. Must I claim this on my taxes. If so, when does this company send the 1099 form?

Answers: The mutual fund company should be sending out a 1099 shortly. I've already recieved some of my 1099's. Some haven't all the same arrived.

You will need to pay cheque taxes on the income that you made - the difference between what you originally contributed and what you finally got. Depending on how long you've held the mutual fund this could be long possession capital gain or short term property gains. The 1099 should inform you what you need to know.

Good luck!

You get some correct answers already, but let me lately expand a little. You didn't state if this be in an IRA. If it be, you will get wallop with a 10% cost for early renunciation.

You should be getting your year-end 1099 any day very soon. I never heard of a mutual fund that erstwhile to pass past its sell-by date the tax consequences to their investors!
With mutual funds, dividends and means gains are passed through to shareholders on an annual spring. It isn't like selling stock shares. If you accrue any such gains surrounded by 2007, you should receive a 1099 form from the mutual fund. Call the mutual fund to find out.

How is investment banking such a stressful job?

Answers: I am one and it would take me hours to go into detail but the job is consistent competition. You are competing with other bankers from other firms every day. You are pitching your idea to a company or other types of institutions. They only pick one banker/firm to go with.
There are a couple different ways to answer this. The main reason people find it stressful is that when you are dealing with large sums of company's money they expect the best - and rightly so. This can involve working extremely long hours (especially during certain phases such as an IPO) and always being on call.

Some people find it stressful because they find that they really just don't like what they are doing.

Others still find it stressful because it is an extremely competitive environment, both with your co-workers and with other firms.
when work environment is friendly, affordable, and are with understandable problems, and if you love the job with full involvement nothing is stressful.

amount of money involved, in reality has no value than the risk involvement. understand the risk - evolve the strategy - love the job - then there will be no stress.

I have been investing with my own money since 40 years - my failure rate is disproportionately higher than the success. I have no stress at all since I have not lost money in investing. Ask me how? Number of failure is more - there I quickly change my strategy and minimize the loss then 1 success out of 4 failures paid me more.
In the present market strategies are fast changing and we should cope up with it.
Love the job that is the beginning for reducing the stress
best of luck.
Possibly because there is always pressure to do better than your last deal. As they say you are only as good as your last deal.

I don't think is to do with large sums of money-you quickly adapt to this and a few noughts on the end don't do much to stress levels. Nor to the fact that you might screw up- not all deals can go right.
No I think it is the treadmill effect: no sooner have you completed one deal-you immediately have to look for a bigger, better, and more lucrative one, and so on after that one.
