Answer in one sentence:- Dont enter market right now , its very volatile right ,
Suggestion :- As student if time permits you ,study market first, get acquainted to jargon's of market , ready financial time / Economic times , see the overall prospect ...and then think of investment ...
If you are complete new to the stock market (and with Rs. 5000 in hand) then Mutual Funds are the best way to enter into the stock market. If you are willing to take risk (at younger age you should take) then invest in good diversified equity fund. Before you invest, do check the track record of the fund for at least three years. Do read a lot about the stock market and the stocks before you actually enter into the stock market.

But if you really wished then you can enter in cash market and invest in small/mid -cap companies which have strong fundamentals and higher returns.
But first, as many said, you need a bank account, demat account and a trading account. And the broker (or sub-broker) will advise you about investment.
