Stock short covering?

I wonder, what is the difference between holding a short position in stock:
1) going into collapse and will be delisted in a few days?
2) get acquired by some private equity firm and will be delisted surrounded by a few days?
Does the short position have to be covered contained by both scenarios?

Answers: When a stock is delisted it does not give up to exist, even if the company goes into liquidation. It may continue to trade on another exchange the OTC BB or the pink sheets. It is possible at some after that date the stock will be canceled and no longer exist, but that does not always surface.

When a company is acquired by some private equity firm, the equity firm will buy and revoke all the stock, after which the stock will no longer exist.

In lay down to keep a short position your broker must hold shares to borrow. If the shares are canceled and no longer exist the broker will not have shares to borrow so short positions will hold to be covered.
