Answers: Are you expecting the price of jet fuel to drop completely soon? If there ever be a complete industry on the verge of collapse, this one is it. LUV is still profitable for the moment anyway. They be smart enough to quibble their fuel costs. At least it shows that their direction was doing something besides collecting bonuses. These hedge are going to eventually expire. But who knows? By after they may be the last airline not here flying assuming there is no system bailout of the others, which I would not rule out.
Investment query almost how to track your investments?
In general, airlines are NOT a flawless investment, as they are unpredictable, heavily dependent on good management-union relations, and their profitability depends strongly on fuel costs.
Airlines shift out of business (Aloha Airlines most recently...), and if they don't, they run bankrupt and verbs, which means that adjectives stock holders are out of luck, because the debtholders get compensated off first.
Me instinctively, I'm an advocate of advantage investing (finding great companies to invest in, buying them at the right price, and simply selling when they get overvalued...). Airlines, unhappily, never fit into these categories -- they are too speculative, and thus too risky to place your hard-earned money.
Hope this helps, and dutiful luck!
