All you get is puts and calls
So you could buy call or buy puts.
And as you are doing that someone else is selling (or writing them) to you. So that's four different ways.
Buying CALLs. You buy the right to CALL (buy) the shares. You think the bazaar is going up.
Buying PUTs. You buy the right to PUT (sell) the shares . You think the flea market is going down.
Selling CALLs. You sell the right to CALL the shares from you.You dream up the market is going down.
Selling PUTs You provide the right to PUT the shares on you. You think the marketplace is going up.
So when you are paying money you have the control, it's your bid (even when it's a PUT!)
If you take money you are giving the control to someone else.
