What's the best opening to invest $20,000?

Question:

Answer:
At the moment 3-mo t-bills look very attractive. About $15,000 at hand. The major money center bank have be beaten down pretty unsuccessfully because of the concern over mortgage defaults. They may tender an opportunity, but I could be all raining there. Chinese stocks own also been bested down some. CHL looks attractive. But again it may be more attractive next month.

derek's answer (I hope he doesn't mind me using his answer here, but I want it as I refer to it.)

Answer from me, gosh137

Nobody knows. What is best for one, is doomed to failure for another. 100 years ago, most people thought the unusual noisy, dirty allways broken down "automobile" would never amount to much and buggy whip would be the "best" investment. A few years later, Henry Ford's Model T proved them wrong. 25 years ago, inhabitants thought, why wait a week to see pictures when a "Polaroid" is organized in 60 second. Where are they now? Maybe something used by most ancestors in the world, used everyday, used up at a rate of knots and bought again is todays "best" investment. Soap has be around for hundreds of years, will Proctor & Gamble, Colgate Palmolive, Dial, etc. still be making it 100 years from now? Or subsequent year will someone invent a "cleaning ray" where you step into a "shower" fully clothed, turn on the "lignt cleaning ray" for 30 second and both your clothes and you are fully clean? Whatever you choose, hold on to a watch on it. The "best" of today can be the buggy lash of tomorrow. If you don't have the time to hold close watch on your investment, later I agree with the first responder, a ably diversified mutual fund, with a foot in everything conceivably best (a combination of safety and olden returns).
to make heaps more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for energy go to: www.angel17.ws
I would buy a short possession CD and contained by the mean time I would find out as much as I could going on for the stock market it might be the best for you it might not but check it out and see if it appeals to you. I close to it and it is very correct just not right immediately it is going down but when it turns around it is going to be were you want to be most plausible. Before you invest It is wise to read heaps books. Like Stock Investing for Dummies, 24 Essential Lessons for Investment Success, A Begginers Guide to Day Trading Online, Trading for Dummies.
I went to college and afterwards took some other courses that have help me build my career.

I also estimate that a good, diversified portfolio of stock mutual funds is a nouns way to invest money.
In your own teaching of finances so you can form educated decision about what to do next to your money. If you listen to anyone who mentions diversity or mutual funds, do not listen. Success is based upon you using F.O.C.U.S. - Follow One Course Until Successful. Diversity creates too much attention contained by other directions, mutual funds are fancy savings accounts that charge you to hold and play beside your money. I read a previous answer where someone placed $5k within an account and surrounded by 15 years it is "quadtriple"? Whatever that means, if it take you 15 years to make $20K sour of $5k, that is not a honourable investment, but as with us adjectives, that is my judgment. I can take $5k and turn it into $20K within about 6 months.

Take some courses or attend some seminar that will teach you what to do next to your money. Investing in yourself is the best investment you can form.

Best wishes...

Why are checking accounts no longer an earth-shattering source of funds for commercial bank contained by the United States?

Question:

Answer:
They are still very significant, however, over the last 10-20 years or so funds enjoy been disappearing traditional bank checking accounts and going into money open market fund accounts that provide better returns, are very solution and typically allow similar checkwriting features. Most large bank resonded to this trend by organically developing their own brokerage houses or purchased one. Also, bank customers are mortal more efficient next to their cash. The knack to conveniently transfer funds online/ATM/phone, the increase use of credit cards as a expense method, the increase in the popularity of electronic automatic payments, and the availability of overdraft protection products own all organize to customers being more well-run by maintaining smaller relative balance in low or nought interest checking accounts. Checking accounts for banks however are still extremely central as a lead product to get together additional more profitable business from existing clients. Most retail bank track the # of products owned per checking account customer as rate of how successful their retail sales process is.
I dont know for sure, but my guess would be consumer financing.
It depends on the ridge. For some it is still a major source of funds that can be loaned out. However, for most bank, checking account source of funds are not ample to satisfy loan requirements and thus look insignificant in the total portfolio.
Because most credit is handle electronically via credit cards and direct transfers. The use of checks is steadily declining. Unfortunately, I'm usually within line trailing the few remaining check writers at the supermarket checkouts.
Because checking accounts have money that will go the banks sooner tha following son it can not be invested, therefore, it doesn't count towards investment. That's why bank always ask you to invest within some way, for them to loan your money while you preserve it there old age.
Because most if not adjectives checking accounts are now free. They receive some money based on investing a unmistaken amount of the money, before it is transfered to the payee's rationalization.

I expect most of a bank's money today, to come from loans. Some banks in a minute handle stock transactions too
Because the depositors clearly prefer nest egg accounts and money market funds. Most recent flow of funds facts from the Federal Reserve show that the U.S. household sector holds the following assets (numbers in billions of dollars):

Checkable deposits and currency 272.1
Time and nest egg deposits 5,040.8
Money market fund shares 1,039.9

If you enjoy invested in them contained by a non-registered investment you can write off losses on the investments against other income gains to downsize your taxes

Finally if you invest in Labour Sponsored Investment Funds surrounded by Canada you are entitled to an extra tax credit 15% from the federal affairs of state on the first $5000 and some provinces match it. so you can catch $1500 back from a $5000 investment. Some provinces will tender you 20% if the fund is research oriented so you can if truth be told get $1750 put money on on a $5000 investment

"Rejected by Market" Pink Sheet Stock?

Question:
I tried to make a Limit Market purchase for a pink sheet stock and I verbs to get this message. I hold increased my bid but no luck. Any help would be awesome.

Answer:
When you buy a stock on a regular exchange near is a market inventor assigned who will sell to you if not a soul else wants to. That make the stock 'liquid' - it guarantees you can buy and sell whenever you want when the flea market is open.

There are no marketplace makers assigned to Pink Sheet stocks - so the reality that your order is not person filled channel no current shareholders want to sell. There are several stocks on the Pink Sheets that don't trade for months at a time. The only entity you can do is leave your proclaim in the marketplace and hope that someone is prepared to hit it.

Incidentally you might want to check the information you're putting in for the trade. You can own a Limit order (meaning you buy below a faultless price). You can have a Market establish (meaning you buy at any price). You cannot have a Limit Market decree, it makes no sense. ALWAYS use Limit instructions, if you use a Market order the brokers will exploit you by selling at the superlative price possible.
Could be that no one is trading the stock, that the volume is simply too standard lamp.

Also check to make sure you are using non-marginable funds to buy the stock. Basically seasoned funds, not funds you simply put into the account a time ago. Needs to be around 5 business days at least.

Learn give or take a few finance, credit, and mortgage:

Not every brokerage trades every stock. If you are surrounded by a program that, for instance, just trades the big three (NYSE, AMEX, and NASDAQ) afterwards Over The Counter (OTC) are out of the ballpark--including PinkSheets, which is further down the OTC back nouns trading territory.

They may hold some info for their stock searches, but own no trading connections, and probably no desire to make the nouns. The fishing is fine in their usual spots and casting for minnows on the side creeks is not interesting.
Call your broker and ask what the current asking price is on the stock. Or check the pink sheets internet site. It shows ask price and also volume of pink sheet stocks.

There is a exotic broker Profinum.com which has no spread and no commission. It sounds too angelic to be true, but I may check them out. They limit you to 15 trades per morning, and they charge something like $1 per respectively lot after the 15 free trades, but most people don't trade that much.

you need to look up what the "ex dividend date" and the register date is. is - go to the tesco network site, then to the investor relations slice. Look at what the record date is for the shares you hold - roughly you have to enjoy the shares registered in your pet name on that date in instruct to qualify for the dividend - either the final or the interim. You should also find this contained by the investor relations section of the company's statutory annual report
Look at the ex-dividend date. Once this date passed you will be entitled to the dividend, even though it will be rewarded later. Keep surrounded by mind that stocks often drop by the amount of the payout on that date.
until the ex-dividend date
check the dividend date & journal date. You must hold it at least until the history date. the record date is the date that they check to see who holds the stock. As long as you own it by close of business that year, you get the dividend.

If US Airways buys Delta, what would surface to my stock?

Question:
This is a low-finance question: I bougt Delta when it be @ .46. I didn't buy a lot, but I've in the order of doubled my purchase. If I sell it presently, the transaction fees will eat up my yield, but if the US Airways deal go thru, what happens to my Delta stock?

Answer:
It'll rise to epic proportions
Typically the company anyone bought goes up contained by value after a purchase is announced. So once its guaranteed to start you may want to sell. Otherwise you will be offered X amount of U.S. Airways for your Y amount of Delta. And individually I wouldn't want to own any U.S. Airways right now.
I can individual tell you what happen when EDS bought SDRC.

Basically, EDS tendered an tender at twenty-something a share for SDRC stock. They then set up brokerage accounts at some third-party clearinghouse that handle all of the individual stockholders.

I sent my stock certificate to the clearinghouse, and about 2 weeks next got a check for the full amount of the submit.

Whatever the offer is, don't expect Delta do do anything after they adopt it (but before the transaction is complete). Nobody is going to discharge more for stocks that they can't trade and can only put on the market to the new owner for the tender price.
if you own airline stock after the 9-11 crash i would read aloud that you are already a risk taker so the projected drop in efficacy shouldn't bother you

the stock ( if they merge ) will be replaced with stock contained by the new company - if they are purchased and the company is retired later you will get harmonious value surrounded by US Airways stock ( or a stock buy-out at the selling price )
None of the answers are correct that I have see so far. I know this because I work in mergers and aquisitions. The board of directors for both compaines will agree to stock option. One recent aquisition, of Hudson United Bank to TD Bank North, for example, had the preference to stay on HUBCO and purchase until the date the aquisition was final. I have another recently that sold stale all their stock back the aquisition because it would not have be profitable to carry over low merit stock.

Just because there is a possible merger it does not plan it will be more valuble. You are discussing the airline industry which is very large risk.
Your share price is likely to turn up though by what percentage i can't tell. remember the board of delta would own its shareholders in mind and wouldn't put on the market it at a loss.also, it's likely you would receive an present to sell your shares at a specific price respectively from US airways so just stay composed.
The common thinking is that your stock will rise.
You might want to call for your broker or dig for a while deeper in the merger business details. I had shares surrounded by a VOIP company that sold out--yippee!--but they only sold out their technology and book of business, the company itself remained, and that be where my shares be, in a worthless shell. What is more, this be a going-concern, not a bankruptcy. Some tin mine surrounded by Nevada bought the shell. In the process there be a terrible reverse split and instead of several thousand shares, I've get 8 and it is worth about 80 cents at recent bidding.

A friend have one who went in debt and his interest didn't carry forward, the reissued stock go to debtors.

You will want to watch ruin buy outs like a hawk. This one will probably come out okay for you, but sometimes the legalese will slaughter you.
Whether US Airways buys Delta or not, Delta's current stock is going to zero.

Delta is surrounded by bankruptcy. US Air have proposed to buy Delta after it emerges from ruin.
http://www.usairways.com/awa/content/ope...

So US Air's proposal effectively is to the current creditors of Delta, who will own the entirety of the company when it emerges from liquidation, and not the current equity owners.

The current equity owners will hold nothing because the current shares will be cancelled regardless.

Delta plans to files its reorganization plan subsequent month, and plans to emerge from bankruptcy contained by mid 2007.

Why VC purloin prefer stock than adjectives stock?

Question:

Answer:
Preferred stockholders have priority over stockholders or adjectives stocks/shares. This priority is for profits and assets in the event of liquidation, during liquidation.

Also, preferred stock and get a defined, fixed dividend which is given previously common stockholders; you get hold of your money before stockholders of oordinary shares.

One of the disadvantages, though, of preferred stock is that you don't return with any voting rights or have predetermined voting rights when it comes to major company decision. Also, preferred stocks are not generally traded on the stockmarket the process ordinary stocks are so, the potential for your preferred stock increasing surrounded by value is controlled.

Whats a honourable stock to invest within and is not too expensive any?

Question:

Answer:
And what are your goals? The "invest" tell me you want something for the long run, but that question is usually intended for a speculation, a short-term, trading tip.

Costco (COST) rose because of fitting sales and income figures. How long will that second, a week, a day, an hour? Who know, but there is a perfect company with angelic earnings and angelic news, so for a time it have a good prospect, unless near is a bad Christmas sale report--which is another thing, retailers lose after the running out of the year because so much of their business is 4th quarter stuff. It is also a little above $54, so what is expensive to you?

Nuance Communications (NUAN) is single about $11.70 and have good communication and good prospects that are longer reaching. Still, tech companies own enormous competition and their nitche margin may disappear in the adjectives. So, it is probably not a buy and forget it "investment".

Goldman Sachs (GS) is an old profitable firm that only made another boatload of money based on their ultimate earnings report, but they provide for about $200, which even for me sounds pretty darned expensive, on the other hand for the long run it might be good.

If it be a couple of weeks ago, I would have said Netopia (NTPA), but its within a buy-out and you (not me) missed the big rush to bid it up.

May I suggest EGY (Vaalco Energy)? It is a little below $8, but really dutiful growth and profit numbers. Look that one over really good, okay? (Caution, the trend is down so don't look for instantaneous results)

Steve
It depends on what you be set to by not expensive. In investing the price is not what makes it expensive. You must see if it is worth what you are paying. Do you parsimonious not expensive as in below $20 or not expensive as in it is trading at a flawless multiple?

Penny stocks are way too risky if adjectives you have is a couple of bucks to grasp some. The commission alone will eat up any gain, if any.

If you want to invest small dollar amounts regularly, open a brokerage explanation that allows dollar cost average (DCA) invest in a stock that will permit you DCA or DRIP. This lets you invest a dependable amount every month & buy fractional shares.
