Which site is better, scottrade or sharebuilder, for small mount investing for a college student?

Question:

Answers:
Go with scottrade. I hold an account and you can't flay $7/trade. They also have office all over the US.

Sharebuilder charges something like $15.95 for real time trades. They also hold a program where you can "dollar cost" average into a stock. Say you want to invest $50/month into Apple, $25/month into ebay, and $10/month into Starbucks. It'll cost you $4/month/"automatic transaction". You can also subscribe to their pack deals where on earth they give you 20 automatic transactions for $20. 6 trades/month for $12. The trick though is..you hold to invest the same year every month and they execute the trade. You have no control over when (morning/afternoon or time). This is fine if you want to build up stock.

I do like eTrade for their interface but their trades are $15 unless you do X trades a month and the price go down...but for a small investor, it's cheaper to go near the $7 trades at Scottrade

Other Answers:
Neither, go beside http://www.etrade.com
Scottrade is excelence for small individual investors. Trade get executed quickly, low flat rat commisions, and no extra charge for limit establish.

I have an vindication with Scottrade.
I'm also a college student and I hold had a great time near sharebuilder.
Scottrade charges $7 per transaction. Sharebuilder charges a dollar amount per month and you get set amount of free trades ($20 for 20 trades, $1 incorporate.; $12/6, $2; or no fee and $4 per investment). You capture these rates as long as you trade on a certain light of day (Monday). Also, you can set a dollar amount for a company, and not the trading price; that way you can build up numbers of shares over time at your own tread. It's also a better and easier environment, go look for yourself.

Neither of those is better for small investor. Either http://www.etrade.com" title="http://www.etrade.com">http://www.etrade.com or http://www.ameritrade.com" title="http://www.ameritrade.com">http://www.ameritrade.com provide you next to more service for less wealth in your portfolio. I've used them adjectives and others over the years and now use Ameritrade exclusively.
Have you considered no excise DRIPs? (Divident Reinvestment Programs)

I lost so much percentage return when I started investing in college due to fees. Not solitary trading fees, but account care fees. They'd charge 15+ every QUARTER if I didn't have so abundant thousands of dollars in my picture. This was near both etrade and ameritrade a few years ago - they may have changed.

It be hard to frequently trade next to only 1 or 2k. Food for thought - simply watch out for the justification maintenance fees.
Scottrade charges $7 per transaction.. But thats not too fruitless for a "real time" trade.. They also enjoy some great features on their site.. The best has to be the "streaming quotes" though.. You can see alot of info. surrounded by real time.. There are other sites that give the same features but the narrative minimums are much higher than Scottrade.. Also Scottrade have NO inactivity fees! Unlike other places that kind you trade so many times per month or per quarter.. I too am competent only to invest on a small mount and have found Scottrade to be the best overall.. I hold tried Schwab, TD Waterhouse, and Ameritrade. Scottrade, in my inference, beats adjectives of those.. Good luck with your investing!
Agree. I've be with Scottrade for years and it's a great place to build a stock and mutual fund portfolio.
firsttrade is the best place to start. but if you want to spawn profits. I found purplematrix.biz to be the best investment site. With only $100 invested, I be able to trademark a profit of $1000-$3000 each time. You can call upon David Fiarman at 973.668.7119. He will be glad to show you how to profit from the stock market

The Dow achieve 11,000. What does it vehicle to investors approaching myself?

Question:

Answers:
EVERYTHING. THE DOW PULLS OTHER COMPANIES UP WITH IT. LIKE BOEING (BA) FOR EXAMPLE. BA IS AT A HIGH BECAUSE OF THE BOOMING WORLD ECONOMY. AND SO, FIND OUT WHAT IS WORKING IN THE S AND P 500 AS WELL AS THE DOW 30, THEN DO RESEARCH TO FIND WHERE THE DERIVED DEMAND IS. EXAMPLE, ATI , ALLEGANY TECH., THEY ARE BIG INTO TITANIUM WHICH CORRELATES TO THE BOEING ORDERS, ALL METAlS WILL BE BOOMING AS LONG IS BA IS DOING GOOD. CAT IS ALSO PERFORMING WELL. HPQ IS DOING GOOD AND IT IS NO SUPRISE THAT SEAGATE IS DERIVED FROM HPQ OR COMP MANUFACTURERS IN GENERAL. YOU WILL PROBABLY MAKE MORE MONEY OFF THE SMALLER DERIVED COMPANIES LIKE ATI AND SEAGATE, BUT YOU GOT TO KNOW WHY. SEC.GOV IS THE BEST PLACE TO GET REASEARCH ON THE DOW, HENCE, ALL THE PRESS RELEASES GO THERE FIRST. WHEN YOU SEE BA HAS A LESS THAN EXPECTED QUARTER, YOU SELL THE ATI ETC.

ALSO, IT IS ALWAYS A GOOD TECHNICAL INDICATOR THAT THE MAJOR INDEXES ARE AT NEW HIGHS AFTER A FIVE YEAR SPELL. I DON'T SAY ALWAYS W/O PARALLEL. IF YOU LOOK AT HISTORY. THERE HAS RARELY BEEN A TEN YEAR SPAN OF TIME WHERE THE S AND P HASN'T APPRECIATED AN AVERAGE OF TEN PERCENT A YEAR. THE 70'S WERE FAR WORSE THAN 2000 TO NOW IN TERMS OF GEOPOLITICS, OIL, INTEREST RATES, DOOM AND GLOOM, ETC. AND THE INEDEX STILL PULLED OUT A 10% GAIN (AVERAGE FROM 1970 TO 1980). THIS MATTERS, THUS, WE ARE VIRTUALLY FLAT FROM 2000 TO 2006. AND SO, MY THESIS (BASED ON HISTORY) IS THAT 2006 TO 2010 WILL APPRECIATE ENOUGH TO GIVE US A 10% AVERAGE GAIN FROM 2000 TO 2010.

Other Answers:
nothing unless you own a mutual fund that trades the dow.

The simply reason it would imply anything is if any of the large mutual funds hold a buy or a sell signal programmed into their trading systems once that plane is reached.

What do you guess will be NASDAQ index by finishing of 2006?

Question:

Answers:
I don't think an superfluous 5% increase in the index by the cease of the year would be unreasonable. It's already up for the year, so expecting it to put up great numbers again might be unrealistic.

In fact, when you run into account we're surrounded by a 35-month period of minus at least a 10% marketplace correction, which is the fifth-longest such period contained by the last 100 years, you enjoy to wonder: When's the "big hit" going to come? If it comes this year, that's a buying opportunity for intelligent long-term investors.

Hope this helps!

How do I figure holding term on absolute stock?

Question:How do I calculate the holding length on a stock?? Is it to take the price of the first daylight after opening of the stock divided by the later dsay of the price??

Answers:
The holding period is a interval of time. Do you mean the Holding Period Return for a stock?

Most of the time, it will be equal to:

Return = (P_end + D)/P_start - 1.0

where on earth P_start is the price at the start of the period, P_end is the price at the running out of the period, and D is the sum of adjectives dividends paid during the time.

I say "most of the time" because if near was a stock split, that complicates things. You have need of to adjust the starting price (and possibly the dividends) to reflect the split.

Question:

Answers:
It depends on your risk appetite.

Mutual Funds are certainly more risky than FDs but unanimously they give u more returns.

Ultimately it boils down to the amount of risk you can bear.

Other Answers:
Mutual Fund and Fixed deposit is two different investment instruments. To identify which one is better for you depends on your investment objective, unless specifically known it cannot be fixed.
A solid investment program would consist of both. Always have a indubitable per centage in accessible dosh. The percentage can vary but should be maintain. A solid investment program also implies not a soul mutual fund but a variety. Say one that invests surrounded by European companies, one that invests in Asian companies, one that invests contained by U S companies. And not just any mutual fund will do. One must be terribly selective and select mutual funds that have a wearing clothes track record.

Professional investment adviser will recommend asset re-balancing. That is periodically selling some of the investments that have done markedly well and buying more of the ones that hold not done so well so that your percentage within each class remains roughly the same.
