how do calculate returns on an investment?

Question:If i started with a monthly amt of 100, that increased by 10% every year for the finishing five years.

Answers:
Assuming interest is compound (you earn interest on your interest)...

One way to do it is to simply lug the amount you start with, multiply by 1 + the interest rate (in this armour .1) and repeat that step for every year.

Year 0 = 100
Year 1 = 110
Year 2 = 121
Year 3 = 133.1
Year 4 = 146.41
Year 5 = 161.051

The faster way to do it is the use the formula:
FV = PV * (1+ i)^n

Where FV is the adjectives value (the amount you expiration up with), PV is the present value (the amount you started with), i is the interest rate and n is the number of period.

FV = 100 * (1+.1)^5
FV = 161.051

Is positive for retirement more far-reaching immediately than good for kids' college?

Question:My husband and I are in our mid-thirties and own two children, ages 6 & 3. My husband is a CPA and I am a full-time mom. We have be getting conflicting views...what do you have a sneaking suspicion that?

Answers:
It's more important, but smaller number urgent. The reason it's more substantial, is because when your kids reach college age, within will be options sympathetic to them. They will be able to walk to college if they want to. But when you reach retirement age, and if you haven't prepared for it, you might not be capable of retire, or you might decide that you don't want to retire next to what little you have. Social Security is helping seniors smaller quantity and less, and within the future it will simply become increasingly inadequate. Schools are implement more and more work/study programs. You want to do both.

Other Answers:
College is a much better investment. It can yield actual results, but your retirement fund can be supplemented after that through a home sale, relieve from kids, work pension or command assistance.

How about partially goes to the kids college and partly goes to retirement? After the kids are out of college you'll own lots of time to save for retirement anyway, plus a undamaged lotta extra $ too! Well it all depends on your children really. If they are smart sense children who are going to be sucessful, then free up for college and if they dont turn out to what you prefer and end up man quite extensive trouble maker, then time for some "retirement money do you ain gettni nuttin from your sons"
Well personally, I have an idea that saving up for retirement is learned since your children can borrow money for college and ect while you wont have that comfort when you bring old.

Isn't abiding for retirement a more critical need than good for college? After all, you and your child can borrow for college if basic. Borrowing for retirement is a more difficult proposition.

In Jamaica is the US money wroth more?

Question:If i have a thousand contained by the US and went to Jamaica would my money worth alot more? I wont to know would I be rich contained by Jamaica with hundred or five dollar?

Answers:
I second Naj. Yeah, the US dollar is worth roughly $65+ Jamaican, but having US$100 surrounded by your pocket won't make you rich surrounded by Jamaica. Your quality of vivacity is going to depend on a mess of other things like where on earth in Jamaica you live, inflation, interest rates, etc. A few years hindmost, I was working within Kingston when the US dollar was worth $42 Jamaican, my stipend was the equivalent of US$1000 per month, and that be a livable wage for me as a single person. If I be earning that same remuneration now, I would own a completely different experience. As I said, I depends on many more things than lately exchange rates.

Other Answers:
ALOT more!
Check the exchange rates.
No it would buy just in the order of the same amount of produce as is does in the United States.
1 us dollar is =65.85 jamaican dollars. That does not necessarly stingy that you will be rich.
Source(s):

absolutely. their 20 dollar bill is similar to our 1 dollar bill. A simple $5 tip in our currency would buy greatly of groceries or pay close to close to half of someones monthly rent contained by jamaica.
Source(s):
ex co worker had a jamaican bf and described her leave there
You would receive a lot more Jamaican bills within exchange -but you get in the order of a 100 % return on your dollar-far from being rich. EG you bring 64 Jamaican dollars for 1 US dollar, but you want to buy an item which would cost you $1 US in the States, It may cost you .50cents US within Jamaica-provided it isn't an imported item which would later cost you at least $2 US For the exchange rate (it change twice a week-on Tuesdays and Thursdays) Go to this site http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic?lang=en
btw keep within mind that housing in Jamaica is extremely expensive, whereas commodities and services may be reasonable. I am not sure where on earth the other people advise you have gotten their information-I grew up contained by Jamaica so I'm giving it to you straight-the dollar is currently 64 -1 and NOT 20-1 as the person above me is describing you. The last time the dollar be 20-1 was until that time 1982 LMAO! Anyway, as I was adage it's just a opening to attract Tourism, when you get 64,000 Jamaican dollars for your $1,000 US dollars it does buy much more than what you could own received in the US for that money.

i own five thousand dollars. what can i do to invest and double my money contained by a month?

Question:i dont have much great philosophy. i have a situation but i just come into some extra money and want to experiment with the five dignified. i want to double it aleast. any ideas anyone?

Answers:
Doubling your money contained by a month as a stated goal is freshly plain retarded and therefore doesn't dignify an actual response. That said, if you're only taking the piss, I'd advise to hit a casino, find a roulette gearstick, pick a color, red or black, and put the whole $5000 on it. You'll any double your money or lose everything, which would be just as economically.

If however, you're being serious and want to invest, I'd suggest looking at one of my answers to similarly-themed question in this category. I can let somebody know you this: If you invest it properly and stay disciplined, there's no reason at adjectives it can't be worth $1.2 million in 56 years or so. Without you totalling another penny. Oh, and if you do it inside a Roth IRA? Every penny of it would be tax-free.

--J.

Other Answers:
Bank it!
If it was possible to guarantee doubling money surrounded by a month Economics would not work.
it depends on what kind of risk you are inclined to take. the riskiest is the option market. you can build a ton and lose it all contained by one month. check with the Wall Street Journal within the options or futures paragraph. Cotton, oil, Frozen ginger juice and others are within for the taking.
Oh, I've got some philosophy. Ideas, indeed.
If you discover how to double your money in a month you would be more than rich ,I don't know of any road ,you came into 5000. don't do anything foolish,the market are going down and risk is all around.
There are no guarantees surrounded by the stock market. If you really want to incur risk..I would suggest investing surrounded by options. You can double or lose it adjectives..rather briskly.

Another approach is to invest it in similar to one stock maybe two max. Try to pick stocks that enjoy high growth rates and profits. A month is way too ambitious to hold a stock double...so pick a stock less than $5 that is to say a strong gainer and wait 4-6 mths.

Roulette or sports gaming may be better for you.
That is easy --- fold it surrounded by half.

I enjoy a couple thousand I want to invest what do you recomend investing within?

Question:Foreign markets stocks, IRA Mutual funds etc.?

Answers:
Buy a diversified series of mutual funds. Make sure you hit adjectives the assets classes, like Large sou`wester stocks, small/mid cap stocks, international stocks, emerging market stocks, government debt, corporate debt, hi-yield debt, foreign debt, emerging market debt, real estate, commodities, and precious metals. That's 12 category right there, so next to $1000, you're talking around $83 each. Why not spring for an extra 200 bucks, and start respectively off near $100 even?

Then sit back and rebalance respectively year, back to your productive percentages. This is call asset allocation. The thinking being, what's BEEN hot is more than promising not going to STAY hot.

This sort of portfolio should average 8-12% per year, so jsut split the difference and say 10%. Will it do 10% EVERY year? Of course not. I'd be surprised if it ever did EXACTLY 10%. That's an annual average. With that average, your money should double roughly every 7 years.
So, if you're starting near $2,000 or so like you said contained by the question, next in 7 years you should own about $4,000
surrounded by 14 years you should have roughly $8,000
in 21 years you should enjoy about $16,000
surrounded by 28 years you should have nearly $32,000
in 35 years you should hold about $64,000
within 42 years you should have around $128,000
in 49 years you should hold about $256,000
within 56 years you should have going on for $512,000
in 63 years you should hold about $1,024,000
within 70 years you should have nearly $2,048,000!

Of course, if you keep totalling money in, influence $100 a month, you'll become a millionaire MUCH sooner. The key is discipline, and sticking surrounded by when markets are up OR down. Don't try to time the market--you'll NEVER bring back it right.

Oh, and if you qualify, and do this all within a Roth IRA? Then every penny will be 100% TAX-FREE. That's a deal that's too upright to pass up. That's why I put in the picture all my under-30 clients--if you cause under $90,000, and for this reason qualify to do a Roth, you'd be a fool not to. Just having the power of youth (and as a consequence time) on your side is such an advantage, to squander it would be such a squander!

Hope this helps!

Save it.
If you really quality the need to ask this interrogate in yahoo, and construe you will get a great answer, I suggest that you invest within one of those stocks that always show up contained by those spam e-mails.

No, really, I would suggest a broker to help you near those things
Good question, also depends if you want a short residence investment or if your saving for the adjectives
If you're younger than 45, put it in a Roth IRA. Nothing better that abiding money for when you're retired, because there's nothing worse than man old and poor at like time. And a Roth gives you adjectives the earnings tax-free.
buy a hooker for an evening
Buy Starbucks stock.
Invest surrounded by EUROX and TMRFX in a Roth IRA. By investing contained by a Roth IRA with Charles Schwab you'll avoid have to pay the front nouns for TMRFX. You should average returns around 22% (this is actually a massively conservative rate of return, I've been averaging around 40%!) respectively year and you will only money taxes on the money you put in (unless unsurprisingly you've already paid taxes on it) and you won't wage taxes on what you pull out. If adjectives you put in be your $1000 you'll have one million dollars contained by about 35 years. Enjoy!
